Style Sunday: Fashion Nova X Bridal Party…

Hey y’all!

Now if you guys have been following me for awhile, you know I have been a  million and   one bridal parties. If you’ve ever been in one you know it’s usually accompanied by visits to a bridal salon to try on a number of dresses. However, in this last wedding I was a participant in, the brides vision was easily captured by a dress she found on the popular  clothing website Fashion Nova.

Now I must admit, I was a little nervous about : 1: Ordering a dress online that I had never seen in person and 2. Ordering a fancy dress from Fashion Nova  with whom I was more familiar with their night wear and jeans.

I was absolutely pleasantly surprised! Here’s the dress we wore: ( not in this colour of course )

Captivate The Night Ruffle Gown - Ivory

This was a very popular dress this summer it appears as my size was sold out immediately. I usually wear a US size 10-12( depending on the style of dress and fabric) In this dress based on the size chart, I would fit comfortably in a Medium or a Large with slight alterations.  I needed up having to get a 1X and getting it custom altered to fit me body. Once that was done I was in LOVE with it!

This dress has no zippers or buttons that can often be troublesome in bridal wear. I literally stepped into it and shimmied it up and I was ready to go. This dress is made from 95% Polyester material and 5% spandex. The spandex really makes this piece comfortable to wear, especially if you have to wear it all day. The ruffles on this dress are absolutely perfect to camouflage any trouble areas you may feel you have. ( I know my tummy is a little rounder than I like these days lol! So the ruffles were perfect for me)  Although this dress is an off the shoulder style, it sits so lovely on the shoulders without slipping.

The colour of this wedding was purple, so we got this dress in a rich violet colour. Here is how it looked on me:

We paired this dress with beautiful rose gold sparkly block heels. This shoes were lace up, open toed with a lucite front strap. I couldn’t find the exact ones on the Fashion Nova website, but here are some ones that I like as well and would pair with this dress as well in the same price point:

Precious Heeled Sandal - Rose Gold

Would I suggest looking at Fashion Nova for special occasion dresses? Yes absolutely! This dress retailed for $92.71 Canadian and these shoes in particular retailed for $ 39.73 which gave me this whole bridal look for $132.44 Canadian! That’s remarkable ! I will post the links to these products down below.

Style Sunday: Black Lace and Ripped Denim…

Hey y’all!

Happy Sunday!

So yesterday, I had the opportunity to celebrate the birthday of one of my homegirls. We went out to eat at this really nice, hipster restaurant in the downtown core of my city. We had plans to go down by the water and get some ice cream and hang out after dinner, so I wanted an outfit that was chic yet functional!

Here’s what I wore: IMG_5931

Ripped Denim:
I purchased these jeans from Old Navy a few years back. They are from the Rockstar line. These are absolutely my favourite jeans because they are so comfortable. They are high-waisted which is perfect for us ladies with a smaller waistline but thicker thighs and posterior! (lol)

Lace Top:
This “top” was actually a dress! I purchased this from H&M years ago but never had the opportunity to wear it because the dress insert underneath the lace was way too short for my comfort level. So I macgyvered a top out of it by simply cutting the dress out and placing a plain black spaghetti strap tank top underneath instead.  I really liked the detail in the patterning of the lace which is why I didn’t want to get rid of it!

Shoes:
Honestly, I love high heels, but these low block heels are honestly my favourite shoes in all the earth (lol) I know I’m being dramatic but these little heels are the most comfortable shoes I have ever purchased.  I purchased them from Rainbow for only $12.99! Best money I have ever spent! I wear these heels with everything.

My jewellery was the same old things! My nameplate necklace, my Gold chain with cross and baby ring on it, my Pandora bracelet and a pair of gold hoops! ( so basic I know lol)

It’s super hot where I live right now ( FINALLY) but that usually means I wear minimal makeup during the summer season.

Here’s what I wore on my face:
Face: Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation+Concealer in the shade ” Truffle” Set my face with Ben Nye Powder in the shade ” Cocoa”
Lips: MAC Retro Matee Liquid Lipstick  in the Shade “Oh Lady”
Eyes: Maybelline Lash Stiletto Liquid Eyeliner and Maybelline Colossal Mascara.

That’s all for today folks!

Remember…

Style Sunday: Favourite Outfits I Wore In Panama…

Hey Y’all,

I recently visited Panama, Central America with my “framily” ( Friends+family= framily). Beautiful country! Absolutely gorgeous weather! The perfect combination to help inspire bright and cheerful wardrobe choices. Here are some of my favourite pieces that I wore during my stay:

IMG_2727

Floral Dress: A store in Toronto called “Katie” about 10 years ago. ( not sure if this store still exists)
Flip Flops:  Old Navy dollar sale!

IMG_2699

Two Piece Co-ord: Urban Behaviour
White Tee: Urban Behaviour
Rocawear Gladiator strappy sandals: I purchased somewhere in California ( probably Westfield Culver City) at least 12 years ago
Fanny Pack: My sisters closet (lol)

IMG_2871

Two Piece Skirt and crop top: Boohoo.com
Black strappy sandals: Spring Shoes
Fanny Pack: my lil sisters closet 🙂
This outfit was a big stretch for me! I’m not one to show much midriff unless I’m in a bathing suit. 🙂  But this set I was able to modify so it was modest and a little risky at the same time.:) Two thunbs up for high waisted pencil skirts!

IMG_2979

Yellow Dress: Forever 21
Brown Strappy sandals: Urban Behaviour I believe
Fanny Pack: ( see above)

That’s all folks! I’m preparing for another quick trip to somewhere sunny in a few days! Stay tuned to find out where I’m going and what I’ll be wearing 🙂

Style Sunday: Christmas Sparkle….

Hey y’all quick post today as I am feeling a little under the weather. Here’s what I wore today to church today , to celebrate Christmas Sunday!

Silver Sequin Midi Skirt: Dynamite Clothing. This skirt retailer for $44.95. While it is a little on the pricey side, it is of good quality material. Let’s call it an early Christmas gift to myself ☺️

Black Sheer Top With Bead Detailing: Forever 21 . I found this top on the sale rack for only $13.00! Such a classy piece that can be worn a number of different ways.

I paired this outfit with a simple pair of black ankle booties that I purchased last year at Old Navy.

To finish off this look I used some red lipstick ( Mary Jo K by Kylie Cosmetics) to add a special Christmas touch!

Til next time,

Hey loves!

It’s been awhile since I posted a Style Sunday post because honestly my fall/winter outfits this season have been pretty basic ! (lol) Here are two outfits I liked enough to share with you! These outfits feature some colour blocking and some mixed textures. Enjoy!

Olive Green and Burgundy Colour Blocking

White T-shirt: Forever 21
Burgundy Cardigan: Dynamite

Not a colour combination I have ever explored before but I  must say I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it! I kept my jewelry very minimal ( as I have as of late) with my nameplate necklace and some gold and pearl dangly earrings !

Grey  Knit Skirt and a Yellow Sweater

IMG_1961

Mustard Yellow Top: Forever 21
Grey Knit Skirt: Joe Fresh
Grey Shoes: Sirens ( I think) they are over 15 years old!

This was a very warm and cozy outfit. Perfect for a Canadian winter’s day!  Again, for jewlery I kept it simple with just my nameplate necklace. As well I kept my makeup very neutral.

That’s it for today folks!

Style Sunday: All Black Everything…To A Wedding?

Style Sunday: All Black Everything…To A Wedding?

Hey y’all

This summer I had a few weddings to attend- one of which being one of my best friends wedding. She didn’t have traditional bridesmaids, just her sister, which gave me an opportunity to show up and support her in style!

Our collective group of friends wanted to show up in solidarity and kind of  have a collective theme with our outfits. But with us living all over North America ( Canada, NYC, Alabama, Florida) it would virtually be impossible  to colour co-ordinate – so we decided on black. We would all be able to pick a dress in our own style and not worry about shades being off. 🙂

I had originally had wanted to get a dress made but my seamstress had an emergency that put that option on hold. So there began the STRUGGLE of trying to find a dress to fit the vision I had for myself.

Finally, it was the last store I went into, Le Chateau, that I found the perfect dress for me. Here it is:

IMG_0050

It looks pretty simple at first glance, but here are the details about the dress and how I styled it:

This dress is an off the shoulder lace gown that boasts a stunning front slit.  The bodice underneath is a polyester/ spandex mix which made it super comfortable. (click link)

I kept my jewelry to a minimum. Just some feather earrings with gold hardware detailing. I purchased these at Forever 21. I added a simple silver ring and that was it for jewelry.

I got a little fun with my shoes and bag.  I found this cute clear bag with Asian inspired insert also at Forever 21. It’s a couple of years old so I couldn’t find a link for it.

Forever 21 Clear Turn Lock Clutch & Pouch

My shoes I found them randomly on a last minute trip to the mall at the store Call it Spring. They were bright and colourful and just the right splash of colour to make my black dress pop. These shoes retailed for $64.99 Canadian Dollars ( clink link)

I kept  my nails neutral and was blessed to have my face SLAYED by the one and only Nikki Arthur from eminent allure beauty 🙂 She’s done my face for several events and I would absolutely recommend her for your needs if you are ever in the GTA ( Greater Toronto Area) Instagram:@eminentallure

Style Sunday: 6 Fall Fashion Must Haves…

Style Sunday: 6 Fall Fashion Must Haves…

Hey guys!

Fall has arrived here in Canada and has brought its brisk and chilly temperatures with it!  This means that I needed to do a much needed inventory of my closets. Lately, I’ve been trying to minimize my closet which got me to thinking about what I considered to be my most essential Fall fashion must haves! I thought I’d share what I’d be reaching for the most this season!

  1. Black Leggings: These are my most reached for item! So comfortable and are easily styled so many different ways.  I have been reaching for pairs from Garage Clothing and  ones from Aritzia

2. Oversized Denim Jacket : I found one in New York a last month and have been obsessed ever since! When it’s not freezing enough for a puffy coat or jacket, I just reach for this jacket. Here’s a link to a similar one

3. Blanket Scarves: These are the perfect things to add to any outfit. Practical and fashionable. Most of mine, I actually thrifted from my moms closet! The others I have found from places like Forever 21, Ardene and Garage Clothing, to name a few. Here’s a link to one you may like.

4.  Chunky Heeled Booties: Comfort is key for me this season, which is why I constantly reach for a more thick heeled shoe. I have been loving this pair from Old Navy. I loved them so much I picked them up in black and olive green! Old Navy comes in clutch with the 40% off and super cash! I managed to pick these up for $23.00 each!

5. Cold Shoulder Tops/ Sweaters: There is something really appealing to me about an open shoulder! A tasteful way to show some skin especially in the workplace (lol) Here is a link to a style I have been loving.

6. Loafers: I have been loving loafers lately. Call me a granny ,but these are some comfortable and practical shoes and they are coming out with some styles that are pretty fashionable these days. Last year I picked up two pairs of velvet loafers from forever 21 on the sale rack for… wait for it… $6.00 a piece!! Hooray for clearance shopping! Those are no longer in stock so here is a link to similar ones.

Style Sunday: Pearls and Polka Dots…

Style Sunday: Pearls and Polka Dots…

Hey guys!

Today’s style post features pearls and polka dots! Keep reading to see how I styled these two elements…

IMG_6872

Today I was feeling very ladylike! I was up early this morning catching up on “Coronation Street” ( a British soap opera.. don’t laugh at me LOL) and one of the episodes featured a scene with some ladies dressed up having tea!  So that inspired my style for today, and what better way to channel your inner lady, than to throw on a fabulous set of pearls!

The pearls I chose were gifted to me in a set ( earrings and a necklace completed the set) by my dear friend as a bridesmaid gift ( Thanks Tova!)  The pearls are freshwater pearls, in. a beautiful pearl white shade. Truly timeless pieces and I absolutely love them.

I paired the pearls with these fabulous  black and white polka dot shoes that I took from my godmother years ago! We were hanging out in her room and I saw these in her closet, and knew I had to have them! Thanks Sis, G 🙂 . This shoe has a 4 inch silver stiletto heel and a pointed toe which just puts this pair of shoes in a league of its own.

I wanted to keep my outfit itself simple so that the shoes and pearls could stand out on their own! So I chose a black peplum top and a black pencil skirt. The skirt is from Forever 21 and the shirt is so ancient , I couldn’t remember where I got it if I tried! Here’s a link to a similar top:

I kept my makeup fresh faced with eyeliner( Maybelline unstoppable), Concealer (Clinique) Lips ( currant lip liner and sanctuary by Kat Von D) and Powder ( Mac NW55)

Style Sunday: The Blue and White Striped Dress…

Style Sunday: The Blue and White Striped Dress…

Hey guys!

So… my style  aesthetic has kind of been all over the place this summer. But,I think I have narrowed it down to the one thing I am looking for in an outfit which is…. COMFORT!I have really been drawn to shift dresses, bold patterns and classic streamlined pieces. This post is about the most comfortable shift dress to ever exist!

I was perusing the shelves at my local Old Navy and right at the front, there was a rack with some shift dresses. Now, being a girl with some curves, a shift dress is not usually something I would usually gravitate towards. But this particular one caught my eye!

It was an off the shoulder, vertically striped, blue and white ( which is a colour scheme I am really loving right now)  dress which was a cotton blend. So it was super soft to the touch! I put on my brave face and went into the change room and tried it on… and never wanted to take it off! It was extremely comfortable and surprisingly figure flattering! The dress also has three quarter length sleeves with tie up detailing which I thought was really cute!

The dress is super casual, but what is nice about the dress is that your can dress it up if you needed too!

The dress currently retails for $25.97 on the Old Navy website and I do believe you can still find it in stores.

product photo

This time I chose to keep it casual and here’s how I styled it:

IMG_5607

I simply paired it with my cross/ baby ring necklace ( that I never take off lol) a super big pair of  hoop earrings and some super ancient gold tie up sandals! I kept the makeup simple with some concealer, setting powder, eyeliner and a new lip colour I’m trying out from MAC called ” Oh, Lady” from the retro matte liquid lip colour line.

So that’s it folks! Thanks for sticking with mw through this long hiatus! Love you all and remember…
