Style Sunday: Boohoo x Wedding Season Part II

Style Sunday: Boohoo x Wedding Season Part II

Hey loves!

So wedding season continued for me right into the fall season. I once again looked at Boohoo to find me something spectacular to wear. I had no clear vision in my mind as to what I was looking for, however, I did know I wanted the dress to have long sleeves as the weather in Canada where I live is totally unpredictable during the autumn season.

I came across a few options that seemed like they would suffice but I wasn’t blown away. Then I came across this beauty: ( link down below)

Womens Berry Off The Shoulder Wrap Thigh Split Maxi Dress alternative image

https://ca.boohoo.com/off-the-shoulder-wrap-thigh-split-maxi-dress/DZZ10497-148-24.html

It was a very plain dress, but I think that’s why it was so appealing to me!  This dress would give me the ability to style from scratch with no limitations.
The colour was totally out of my comfort zone but I thought to myself, “Why not try something new?” and so I did… I ordered it and anxiously awaited its arrival.

So that wonderful day came where I came home and my Boohoo package was there. I ripped open the package to try on my dress and… I ABSOLUTELY HATED IT! I thought it was so ugly on me (in my opinion) when I put it on. The blue colour just appeared more muted than I had imagined it to be and that threw me off. I felt like it was more suited to a “mature” woman ( like something a classy lady in her 50’s would wear). I was this close to sending it back, but I got a few opinions from a few fashionable ladies who gave me the green light! So back to the drawing board, I went to find the perfect accessories to make this outfit come alive. Here’s what I came up with:

36F44229-CD69-4C1A-8823-F43919D2AA50

The dress is an off the shoulder dress which allowed me to pair it with a statement necklace. This necklace had blue and silver embellishments which I feel complimented the navy dress nicely. This piece was purchased from Aldo accessories years ago but here is something similar: ( not the same colours, but the same style)

https://www.aldoshoes.com/ca/en/women/accessories/jewelry/necklaces/Arvan-Teal/p/12761296  Retails for $40.00 ( CND)

I also added some teardrop silver earrings. I could have gotten away with not wearing earrings, but who doesn’t love a little extra bling? I was gifted the pair a wore from a friend, but here is a pair I think would be just amazing with this dress as well:

https://www.amazon.com/Silver-Crystal-Rhinestone-Teardrop-Earrings/dp/B00E3XV44G
These retail for only $ 8.99!(USD)

Silver Crystal Rhinestone Teardrop Pear Shaped Dangle Earrings Tipped with Round Shape

On my arm was just my everyday Pandora charm bracelet. I also finished off the look with some basic silver sparkly peep-toe slingback pumps that I also purchased years ago from Call it Spring. These shoes are also unavailable ( sorry guys lol)  Here are some that would work just fine:

https://www.callitspring.com/ca/en/Unenasa/p/11830428
These retail for $38.49 (CND)

I styled my hair big and curly and went a little more extra with my makeup to add a little extra spice to my outfit.

Style Sunday: Fashion Nova X Bridal Party…

Hey y’all!

Now if you guys have been following me for awhile, you know I have been a  million and   one bridal parties. If you’ve ever been in one you know it’s usually accompanied by visits to a bridal salon to try on a number of dresses. However, in this last wedding I was a participant in, the brides vision was easily captured by a dress she found on the popular  clothing website Fashion Nova.

Now I must admit, I was a little nervous about : 1: Ordering a dress online that I had never seen in person and 2. Ordering a fancy dress from Fashion Nova  with whom I was more familiar with their night wear and jeans.

I was absolutely pleasantly surprised! Here’s the dress we wore: ( not in this colour of course )

Captivate The Night Ruffle Gown - Ivory

This was a very popular dress this summer it appears as my size was sold out immediately. I usually wear a US size 10-12( depending on the style of dress and fabric) In this dress based on the size chart, I would fit comfortably in a Medium or a Large with slight alterations.  I needed up having to get a 1X and getting it custom altered to fit me body. Once that was done I was in LOVE with it!

This dress has no zippers or buttons that can often be troublesome in bridal wear. I literally stepped into it and shimmied it up and I was ready to go. This dress is made from 95% Polyester material and 5% spandex. The spandex really makes this piece comfortable to wear, especially if you have to wear it all day. The ruffles on this dress are absolutely perfect to camouflage any trouble areas you may feel you have. ( I know my tummy is a little rounder than I like these days lol! So the ruffles were perfect for me)  Although this dress is an off the shoulder style, it sits so lovely on the shoulders without slipping.

The colour of this wedding was purple, so we got this dress in a rich violet colour. Here is how it looked on me:

We paired this dress with beautiful rose gold sparkly block heels. This shoes were lace up, open toed with a lucite front strap. I couldn’t find the exact ones on the Fashion Nova website, but here are some ones that I like as well and would pair with this dress as well in the same price point:

Precious Heeled Sandal - Rose Gold

Would I suggest looking at Fashion Nova for special occasion dresses? Yes absolutely! This dress retailed for $92.71 Canadian and these shoes in particular retailed for $ 39.73 which gave me this whole bridal look for $132.44 Canadian! That’s remarkable ! I will post the links to these products down below.

Style Sunday: Boohoo x Wedding Season…

Style Sunday: Boohoo x Wedding Season…

Hi guys!

I took a much needed hiatus from the blog world.l I just wanted to enjoy my extremely busy summer without the constraints of deadlines and computer screens! I had the opportunity to attend quite a few weddings this summer season. I’d like to share with you what I wore to these events with outfits I found on the popular retail site Boohoo!

Boohoo is an affordable fashion site that caters to needs of men and women of all sizes. It offers a variety of style options ranging from extremely casual to fancy attire.

Today I’m going to showcase two dresses I purchased. At first glance, the dresses seemed very casual ( based on the material).  But once they were accessorized and I dolled myself up they became real showstoppers!

Look One: The Red Dress…

I purchased the dress actually way back in March to wear to another event but I went another direction. I was able to pull it out for a beautiful wedding in July.

Womens Red Off The Shoulder Wrap Midi Bodycon Dress alternative image

This dress is a polyester blend dress. It is an off the shoulder piece that has a front tie, balloon sleeves and is midi length. This dress was the perfect, lightweight material and length for quite a warm summer day.

I pair this dress with silver jewelry. Teardrop bling earrings ( that were gifted to me by a friend) a silver pandora charm bracelet and a jewel and crystal statement necklace from Aldo Accessories. I added silver peep-toe heels from Call it Spring.

I kept my makeup very neutral as the dress was such a bold colour.

I purchased this dress for the amazingly low price of $33.00! ( Canadian currency) I loved this outfit and I hope the opportunity presents itself where I can wear this dress again!

https://ca.boohoo.com/off-the-shoulder-wrap-midi-bodycon-dress/DZZ56895.html?color=157

( PS: All of us ladies wearing red  WAS NOT PLANNED! LOL. Great minds think alike I guess! 🙂

Look 2: The Yellow Dress

Anyone who knows me, knows my favourite colour is purple. However, my favourite colour to wear is…. you guessed it… yellow !

I had another wedding to attend this summer. This time it was in Montreal , Quebec which is about a 6-7 hour drive from where I live. The vision that I had in my head was that I wanted to look like sunshine. This was the wedding of my very good friend aka my “nephew” and his beautiful bride. I wanted a dress to really support the joy I was anticipating to feel on their special day! I smile every single time I see yellow , so yellow was the only option for me 😉

Once again I went to Boohoo to try and make my vision a reality.  I found exactly what I was looking for!

Womens Yellow Off the Shoulder Wrap Skirt Midi Dress alternative image

This dress is the same type of material as the first dress; a polyester blend. This dress is also an off the shoulder piece.  It is a wrap style dress, which I loved because it was very  forgiving in the mid-section area. What also drew me to this piece was the front split. It just added a nice flair to the otherwise very simple piece.

cropped-img_6695.jpg

To to take this dress to the next level, I paired it with some yellow statement earrings from Forever 21. I added some gold bangles and kept my gold nameplate necklace on. The earrings were already so bold that I didn’t want to make myself look too busy.

I added some lucite cinderella slipper heels  from Fashion Nova. ( I don’t know If I can ever wear these again! They were so painful!) I also added a piece of kente cloth material that I used as a shawl in the day and a headwrap at the after party! 🙂   I also addded a clear purse with a pink insert from Forever 21 to complete the look.

This dress also retailed for only $33.00!

Would I reccomend Boohoo? Absolutely! I would defintely suggest you check it out if you are looking for a beautiful  budget friendly piece!

That’s it for summer wedding looks!   Come back next week and see my summer bridesmaid look !

Til next time….

Style Sunday: Black Lace and Ripped Denim…

Style Sunday: Black Lace and Ripped Denim…

Hey y’all!

Happy Sunday!

So yesterday, I had the opportunity to celebrate the birthday of one of my homegirls. We went out to eat at this really nice, hipster restaurant in the downtown core of my city. We had plans to go down by the water and get some ice cream and hang out after dinner, so I wanted an outfit that was chic yet functional!

Here’s what I wore: IMG_5931

Ripped Denim:
I purchased these jeans from Old Navy a few years back. They are from the Rockstar line. These are absolutely my favourite jeans because they are so comfortable. They are high-waisted which is perfect for us ladies with a smaller waistline but thicker thighs and posterior! (lol)

Lace Top:
This “top” was actually a dress! I purchased this from H&M years ago but never had the opportunity to wear it because the dress insert underneath the lace was way too short for my comfort level. So I macgyvered a top out of it by simply cutting the dress out and placing a plain black spaghetti strap tank top underneath instead.  I really liked the detail in the patterning of the lace which is why I didn’t want to get rid of it!

Shoes:
Honestly, I love high heels, but these low block heels are honestly my favourite shoes in all the earth (lol) I know I’m being dramatic but these little heels are the most comfortable shoes I have ever purchased.  I purchased them from Rainbow for only $12.99! Best money I have ever spent! I wear these heels with everything.

My jewellery was the same old things! My nameplate necklace, my Gold chain with cross and baby ring on it, my Pandora bracelet and a pair of gold hoops! ( so basic I know lol)

It’s super hot where I live right now ( FINALLY) but that usually means I wear minimal makeup during the summer season.

Here’s what I wore on my face:
Face: Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation+Concealer in the shade ” Truffle” Set my face with Ben Nye Powder in the shade ” Cocoa”
Lips: MAC Retro Matee Liquid Lipstick  in the Shade “Oh Lady”
Eyes: Maybelline Lash Stiletto Liquid Eyeliner and Maybelline Colossal Mascara.

That’s all for today folks!

Remember…

Style Sunday: The One With The Neon Shoes…

Style Sunday: The One With The Neon Shoes…

Hey guys,

It seems like neon green ( and neon colours in general) are making a massive resurgence this summer… and you know what? I’m not mad about it! I probably won’t take on the trend in full force but I really don’t mind a little pop of neon colour in my summer wardrobe rotation.

I did a photo shoot with a local photographer( shout out to Catherine from  pure light photography https://www.purelightphotography.info ) in Toronto’s famous Graffiti Alley. With such vivid colours displayed through the art, I kept my outfit extremely simple:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Outfit details:

White V-Neck Blouse: Urban Planet
Distressed Denim: Old Navy ( Curvy profile line)

Both of these pieces are very easily accessible items that can be found at most retail stores. Find the store that best suits your style and comfort. I prefer old navy jeans as they have a curvy style of denim that accommodates a sister like me who is a little bottom heavy. 🙂

Now the shoes are a piece I found on a whim the day before the shoot at Forever 21. I wanted a cute heel that could be multipurpose for me; good for work, church and even for days my back and knees won’t allow for the  4 and 5-inch heels I love :).

These 3-inch faux suede pumps were perfect for the occasion and were just the pop of colour needed to bring an otherwise very basic outfit to life!

Faux Suede Pumps

find them here

To complete this outfit I kept my jewellery simple:

Yellow fringe earrings: Forever 21
Pandora Bracelet
Nameplate Necklace

That’s it, folks! If you are ever in the Toronto area, I highly suggest booking a shoot with Catherine. !

Have a blessed day and remember,
