Hey y’all!
Back at it again with another Style Sunday post! Last weekend I was in NYC visiting my bestie to celebrate her birthday. We spent the Sunday afternoon in the borough of Queens at Grace Jerk Fest . Jerk fest is a Caribbean festival the focuses on cuisine prepared with spicy sauce: jerk sauce. There was jerk everything! This festival also features music of the islands, live musical performances ( This year there was Rupee, Dexta Daps, Gyptian and more) and tons of vendors selling things like cultural clothing and trinkets. I was excited to check out the vendor stands because I really wanted a dashiki!
Sidenote: I had been looking for a dashiki for awhile and I ordered one on Ebay. By the time by trip rolled around, It still had not arrived.
So, guys this day was hottttttttttttttttttt. Like hot to the point that I had to go to the vendor station and buy an umbrella to shade myself from the heat. While I was purchasing my umbrella, I saw a vendor selling dashikis.
I was able to pick up this dashiki in a beautiful fuchsia colour for 15 dollars! Here’s how I styled it:
The Dashiki : From the festival was purchased for 15 dollars. ( purchase a similar one here on ebay)
Black Tights: The TNA Equator legging from Aritzia were purchased for 22 dollars (purchase here) read about my Aritzia experience here
Pink Flats: These are from Aldo. They are called the Lucelle flat. I purchased them for 55 dollars but they are now on sale on the Aldo website!
Total outfit price: 92 dollars!!!
I kept my makeup simple, just some black eyeliner and a pink lip ( Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade “Bauhau5”) and my curls were poppin’!!
When I returned from my trip, the original dashiki I had ordered from Ebay had finally arrived. It was a little different then the one I purchased in NYC which was a cotton polyester blend and the one I ordered was a satin blend. I ordered it in red and one size larger than me so I could wear it as a dress.
That’s all for today folks!!
Have an amazingly stylish week!
xoxo
