Holiday Glam…

Holiday Glam…

Hey guys!

Here is a makeup look I have been gravitating to this holiday season! ( please excuse my eyebrow… I didn’t realize I had smudged it LOL)  P.S I am not a makeup artist, no desire to be one lol( I just like playing around with cool products 🙂

*******

First, I prepped and primed my skin. I used the Hangover Rx Replenishing Primer all over my face with the exception of my t-zone. For my t– zone ( forehead, nose and chin) I used the Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector. I have combination skin that leans more to the oily side so the primer mixing helps to keep my oils controlled.

Hangover Rx Replenishing Primer: $45.00 ( 1.35 fl oz)
Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector: $28.00 ( mini size)

I followed up with the Too Faced Comfort Matte Foundation in the shade Cocoa. This is a medium coverage foundation which is what I prefer these days. Not too heavy on the skin and leaves the skin looking dewy.

Hangover Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation: Normally $48.00 but currently on the Sephora website for $38.50!

Next, I concealed some trouble spots with my Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer in the shade 470. This helped to cover up any blemishes the medium coverage foundation may have missed. This is my favourite concealer at the moment! So creamy, moveable and a little goes a long way.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer: $35.00

On my eyebrows, I used an Essence eyebrow pencil in the shade brown. Easy to use and to create a soft natural-looking brow. I found this at my local Shoppers Drug Mart.

Essence Eyebrow Pencil: $2.49

On my eyes, I used a combination of two palettes. The Naked Heat Palette by Urban Decay and the Morphe 15d Day Slayer Artistry Palette. I honestly mixed and matched different colours. I don’t remember what I used but I wanted bold rosy colours to offset my red dress.

Naked Heat Palette by Urban Decay: $68.00
Morphe 15d Day Slayer Artistry Palette:  This was a  limited edition palette but I believe I got it for around $25.00

To line my eyes this day, I used the Sephora Collection Colorful Waterproof Eyeliner in the shade Black lace, which is a matte black liner.

Sephora Collection Colorful Waterproof Eyeliner: $16.00

For mascara, I just used the Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara in the shade Glam Black.

Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara: $6.00 at Walmart.

On my lips, I used the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade Lolita and Lined my lips with MAC’s Chestnut lip liner.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick: $26.50
MAC’s Chestnut lip liner: $22.00

Finally, to set my face I used the Too Faced Mattifying Setting Spray.  Love how this spray works with this foundation but nothing beats my tried and true MAC Fix+ 🙂

Too Faced Mattifying Setting Spray.  $20.00 ( mini size)

Are They Worth The Hype: Tatcha Water Cream and Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser

Are They Worth The Hype: Tatcha Water Cream and Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser

Hey y’all!

It’s been quite some time since I tried any new skin care products. Over the past few months, my general health has been going through some changes ( nothing too serious so don’t be alarmed 🙂 ) and as a result of that my skin has been going through it y’ all! I have been blessed to have had overall good skin throughout my life. Barely a blemish… EVER! Until recently my face has been experiencing said blemishes, dullness and is just overall BLAH. So, I  decided to test a few different products out to try and figure out a new routine to get my skin back on track- starting with these two Tatcha products.

Now, these products ARE NOT products I would ever purchase on my own simply because of the price. But the Sephora VIB sale and the travel sizes of these two products made this possible(LOL) so thank you Sephora! Let’s get to reviewing!

 Tatcha Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser:

This is a gel cleanser product which is ( as I’ve been told) great for the oily /combination skin that I have.

The Packaging:

The soft teal colour of the packaging is appealing to the eye. What I don’t care for in this product’s container, is that I’m not a huge fan of the squeeze bottle top. The hole is so small that you have to give it a good squeeze to get the product out and some times too much product comes out.

The Product:

I absolutely love how much of a gentle exfoliant this product is! You most definitely can feel it breaking down the debris on your skin but it isn’t harsh. It also leaves your skin feeling ever so soft.  A little bit of this product goes a long way. It has a light, fresh and fruity scent that is very appealing to my nose!

Results on my skin:

I used this product for about 2 weeks consistently on my skin and honestly, I didn’t notice that huge of a difference on my skin except I  did notice that I was slightly less oily.

Cost:

A 5 oz bottle of this product will run you… $49.00 ( Canadian Currency) Yikes…

Is it Worth The Hype:

No. And the price of this product solidifies this for me

Tatcha - The Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser 5 oz/ 150 mL Clean at Sephora

Tatcha Water Cream

So many beauty influencers swear by this cream so I decided to give it try! I truly wanted to know what all the hype was about…

The Packaging:

Once again the teal packaging with gold accents was really appealing to the eye. I liked that this cream came in jar form. It really allowed for the careful distribution of the product.

The Product:

The thin water like texture was very appealing to me. A small amount of the product was able to effectively moisturize my entire face without adding excess oil to my skin.

Results on my skin:

Ok, I loved this product! While I have combination skin with the majority of oils settling on my t-zone, my skin still had the ability to look dull and sallow.  This product really helped bring life back to my skin! I felt comfortable enough to go bare-faced after a few weeks of consistent use.

Cost: A 1.70z jar of this will cost you $89.00 ( Canadian) YIKES!

Is it Worth The Hype:

Yes! I love how it worked for my skin. However, the price point certainly kept me on the hunt for products that are more cost effective. (stayed tuned)

Tatcha - The Water Cream 1.7 oz/ 50 mL Clean at Sephora

I was able to purchase the travel sized duo of these products for only $33.00( Canadian) at my local Sephora.

That’s it for now! Stay tuned for my reviews on other skin care products!

Beauty Blog: Bite Beauty Agave Lip Products…

Hey y’all!

Well winter has returned with a vengeance where I live, so much so that my workplace is closed for the day! ( Woohoo for Snow Days!)

With winter for me, comes extremely chapped lips! I have always sworn by my DIY Brown Sugar and Honey Lip Scrub, but being the product junkie that I am, I wanted to try out the Bite Beauty Agave Sugar Lip Scrub and The Agave Lip Mask.

Let’s start with the Agave Sugar Lip Scrub:
What is it:  A gentle lip scrub designed to exfoliate and moisturize  the lips. It is main ingredients are brown sugar (raw) and agave sugar.  It also has some exotic oils that support the moisturizing effects.

s1899012-main-Lhero

This product retails for $20.00 ( Canadian) and is sold in Sephora stores and on sephora.com. The packaging is basic yet cute!  Do you want my honest opinion on this product? Save your money and make it yourself!! Not saying that it’s a bad product (because it’s not), but is it worth twenty of your hard earned dollars? No!

Here’s my recipe for my go to DIY lip scrub!

2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar ( $0.99/lb at my local Bulk Barn)
1 Tablespoon  Liquid  Honey  (  I use the Natural Honey Farms brand that retails for approximately $7.00 at my local grocery stores)

How to make/use it:  Add the sugar into a dish and slowly add the honey and mix together until it is a thick and tacky  paste like consistency . Spread the paste on your lips and let it sit for 1-2 minutes. Then using a wash cloth, in circular motions rub the paste off of your lips1 Voila you’re done! ( I always like to moisturize with vaseline afterwards)

So there you have it! For less than half the price, you can make basically the same product on your own at home! However, it DIY isn’t your thing, you could check the Bite Beauty product out! I for sure will not be repurchasing 🙂

Next up, the Agave Lip Mask:
What is it: A leave on lip mask that is formulated to return moisture to the lips. Using various oils in addition to the agave honey, this products thick consistency helps to hydrate and smooth out the delicate skin of the lips.

s1575042-main-Lhero

This product retails for $30.00 ( Canadian) Thank goodness I had a gift card , cuz thirty dollars for a lip mask??? No ma’am! (l0l) I really like this product though! If you have the means to purchase this , then I would definitely recommend it. I have been using this product daily for about 2  weeks and have already noticed a huge difference in my ashy lips (lol) I find this product works best when put on at night and left to do its thing while you rest! When I wake up in the morning my lips are smooth and when I have to brave the frigid elements outside, my lips stay intact! I even find that my lipstick applies so much smoother after using this product.

Don’t want to spend thirty dollars on one lip product? ( trust me I don’t blame you)  I have found 2 drugstore brand lip products that kind of do the same thing. Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm which retails for about 8 dollars or the good old tried tested and true Carmex Classic Lip Balm! That is a holy grail product for sure ! It usually retails for about 7 dollars at my local Walmart!

Well that’s it folks! If any of these things don’t work for you, you can always use good old Vaseline ! Vaseline will never let you down ! 🙂

Beauty Blog: Foreo Luna For Combination Skin

Beauty Blog: Foreo Luna For Combination Skin

Hey guys!

I know it’s been a long time since I’ve posted a beauty blog. But that’s because for the last little while, I hadn’t been trying new products. I recently got back into the product game and have a few products I feel worthy to share with you guys.

Ever so often, my skin goes through a transformation. What used to work for me, no longer does so I have to go back to the drawing board and find a new skin care routine. I’m in the process of locking that down right now, so when I do, I will share it with you for sure! One thing that I am definitely going to be adding into my routine is the Foreo Luna Facial Brush for Combination Skin.

What is it?
According to Sephora.com,  it is a silicone facial brush for combination skin that channels both T-sonic pulsations for deep and gentle cleansing, and lower-frequency pulsations to reduce the signs of aging.

This brush is supposed to remove makeup, dead skin cells and unclog pores. It is supposed to provide deep cleansing action that combats oily skin and dry skin alike.  After using this product for about a month, I am sold! I have seen legitimate change in my overall appearance of my skin. Of course, taking care of my body internally ( staying hydrated with lots of water!) has helped as well.

This brush is made out of silicone ( which makes it easier to clean and keep away bacteria) and comes with a two year warranty. This product is rechargeable. It is suggested to not use the Foreo with any grainy, clay based or silcone based cleansers as it may harm to Foreo itself.

Here are my pros and cons for this product:

Pros:

  • Easy to use
  • Easy to purchase online or in store
  • Compact and easy to store. Really awesome to travel with
  • Rechargeable
  • Price- its a little on  the costly side, but because you do not have to replace brush heads ( like the Clarisonic) it is more cost effective.
  • Stays charged for a long time
  • Gentle on the skin while still giving a deep clean.

Cons: ( I only have one)

  • Price. Y’all know I love a bargain and this is not a bargain item lol. However again I stress, It is worth it!

I would definitely recommend this facial brush for all to try! Purchase yours here.

Beauty Blog: NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

Beauty Blog: NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

Hey guys,

I’m back again with another beauty blog. It’s been a long time simply because I went on a product buying hiatus in order to A: use the products that I already have and B: save money! But then, good old Christmas crept in and along with Christmas comes gift cards and VIB Sephora deals!

I decided to bite the bullet and finally try out a couple of high end foundations. I have been blessed with fairly clear skin for the majority of my life so foundation was never a product I felt I needed to spend a lot of money on. I would stick to a drugstore brand (Covergirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous in 320) for the rare occasion that I needed to wear foundation. However, as the years have passed me by, my skin has changed and sometimes I need a little more makeup to cover up the tiredness!( Life! lol)

After hours of watching YouTube reviews and tutorials, I picked a few high(er) end foundations to try. Over the next little while I will share my thoughts on each. Today I want to talk about the  Nars: All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation.

I went to Sephora and had the color match process done on me. That was a complete fail. Every shade they brought was either too light or just had a little something off about it. So a friend of mine who is the same complexion as me had tried this particular foundation in the shade “Benares” and it looked flawless on her. So I picked up a sample from Sephora to try and I was SOLD!

Here are my pros and cons for this product:

Pros:

  • Medium /Full coverage: a little product goes a long way as well
  • Good for all skin types: I have combination skin and I find it wears well in all sections of my face
  • Formulated without parabens
  • Highly pigmented
  • Long lasting
  • Easy distribution: this new packaging has a pump dispenser now

Cons:

  • The packaging ( bottle) is glass which makes for hard transport while travelling
  • Very thin consistency
  • Expensive ( retailing for $60 dollars Canadian)
  • No SPF protection
  • Must set it with a powder for best results

Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in the shade ‘Benares’

Would I purchase this foundation again? Absolutely! Is it my favourite? No probably not,but I do enjoy the coverage it gives me. It works for my needs. It’s good for  basic everyday coverage and is easily to build for more glam events.

Have you tried this foundation? What are your thoughts?
Let me know!

Beauty Blog: The Perfect Pink Pout…

Beauty Blog: The Perfect Pink Pout…

Hey y’all!

It’s been quite some time since my last beauty blog! I thought in honor of my favorite makeup product ( lipstick) I thought  would share with you a few of the pink lipsticks I  love.  I did the same thing a few months back with my fav nude, purple and red lips, so I thought I would just round out the series with the pinks!

Now anyone who really knows me, knows I do not like the colour pink. I’m not the conventional “girly girl”. I never wore( or wear lol) pink so naturally I stayed away  from pink lipsticks .  But…. alas the winds of change have led me to despise the colour pink less and less and I have begun to embrace pink… slowly…. a nail polish here, a pink sweater there… and of course a pink lipstick.

The first pink lipstick I purchased was the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in the shade 220 (Showy). I bought this because It was a dupe for the infamous MAC shade “Candy Yum Yum”.  That lipstick came out when I was just getting into lipstick and I just couldn’t fathom ( at the time) spending 20 dollars on a lipstick.. and a pink one at that!(lol) I was able to jump on the good old internet and track down a dupe which is the lipstick I purchased. Here are the pros and cons of this product:

Pros:

  • Very inexpensive ( 6-8 dollars Canadian)
  • Lots of product in the tube
  • A little goes a long way
  • Extremely pigmented

Cons:

  • It has a very “chalky texture
  • The colour stains your lips but the actual product does not last long . You constantly have to reapply.
  • Must be worn with a liner if you are of a darker complexion. Believe me I’ve tried it without and I looked a little crazy!

I like this lipstick well enough but I probably wouldn’t repurchase it!

“Showy”

Next up: Kat Von D Everlasting Lipstick in the shade Bauhau5.  A raspberry pink shade that has matte finish.

Pros:

  • Long lasting
  • Extremely pigmented
  • Easy application
  • Lots of product

Cons:

  • A little on the more expensive side( 24 dollars Canadian currency)
  • Can be drying on the lips

I absolutely love this product I wear it any chance I get! So flattering especially on women of color! ( my opinion)

“Bauhau5”

Girl About Town:  The lipstick that made me actually fall in love with a pink lip! This lipstick is a Amplified Creme lipstick. A beautiful fuchsia pink lippie with a blue undertone. This is a definite repurchase!

Pros:

  • Very pigmented
  • Creamy consistency
  • Long lasting
  •  Wearable during the day and the night

Cons:

  • Price: about 20 dollars Canadian

Flat Out Fabulous: My all time favorite pink lipstick of all time! I wear this lipstick all time! I reach for this lipstick so often that I always have one in my  makeup case as a back up! This is part of MAC’s Retro Matte Collection.

Pros:

  • Super pigmented
  • Can really modify to suit your needs with a plethora of  different liners ( ie: Chestnut, Vino or Nightmoth from the MAC brand)
  • Flattering on all skin tones ( my opinion)
  • Easy to apply. One coat gives complete coverage.

Cons:

  • Super drying
  • Price ( 20 dollars Canadian)
  •  Has a tendency to smear/fade over the course of the day

I have one more pink that I have yet to explore. Mac Captive. Let me try it out and I’ll keep you updated!

What pink lipsticks do you guys use? Which ones should I try? Let me know!

Till next time!

xoxo

Beauty Blog: My HORRIBLE Sephora Experience…

Beauty Blog: My HORRIBLE Sephora Experience…

Disclaimer: This post is based on one personal experience I had at one Sephora store. This post is not reflective of all Sephora stores of their staff)

Hey y’all

This month I celebrated my birthday and all my makeup geeks out there know that If you have a beauty insider card from Sephora, each year you receive a birthday gift. Well naturally, I ventured to my local Sephora to receive my birthday gift. While I was there, I decided to consult with one of their beauty experts about some products I wanted to try.

Side note: when I entered the store, the lady at the door greeting customers was very friendly . I walked in expecting to have the same old Sephora experiment I have always had. Wrong!

I approached one consultant that we will call “Jill”. ( not her real name of course.) From the moment I approached her, I could see her attitude and demeanor towards me was not pleasant. Mind you, I had on my sweats, hair all in a bun and no makeup on so I guess I didn’t look like the type of customer that “should” be in there or that would be a viable customer.  I must add I am a black girl of Jamaican descent and my skin is a rich deep cocoa brown,. Jill is Caucasian,The conversation that ensued went a little like this:

Scene One: I approach Jill and for help.
Me: “Hi! I was wondering if you could help me with something?”
Jill: “Yes?” ( as she looked me up and down)
Me: ” Ok, I have noticed recently that my skin has changed drastically. I used to have combination skin and now my skin leans more to the oily side. Do you have any products that you could suggest that could combat this problem?”
Jill: “Well, what have you been using?” ( appearing not interested at all)
Me: ” I use a number of products but I’m looking for something that will take away steps from my everyday makeup routine. Simplify it.” I most recently have been using umm the Bare Minerals loose powder..”
Jill: (looks at me blankly) “Loose powder….”
Me: ” Oh here, I snapped a picture of it,.. here it is ( hands Jill the phone)
Jill : ( still looking uninterested)

Let me pause the conversation right here for a moment. At NO POINT did she offer to show me some products, ask if I had skin sensitivities or exactly which products I had tried in the past. What she did next made my blood boil….

Scene Two: The disrespect ensues…

Jill: ( sees a consultant who is black passing by) ” Adanya? Can you help this,,, ( she paused) customer here, She is looking for a product to combat oily skin. You might be better suited to discuss your guys type of skin. I just don’t know what she’s looking for ,..”

At this point my head did a little snap and a little swivel and I glared at the woman so hard I’m sure her life passed before her. ( she did flinch) I mean its okay if you are really not versed in a certain ethnic groups skin type and you call for assistance.. but to just dismiss someone like that???  Where they do that at???? lol Now it’s not what you say sometimes, its how you say it. The way she said it was in such a derogatory tone that it certainly got my attention in a negative way. What if I was a person with low self-esteem? I would be feeling pretty low right about now…

Now, anybody who knows me ( and knows me well) knows that I would have loved to cuss her out ( not swearing) really tell her about herself. But instead, I just bit my tongue and remembered the journey I’m on to “just love them anyway” 🙂

Jill: ( walks off without even a second glance back)
Adanya:” Sorry about that. ( shakes her head)  Now lets start at the beginning. What exactly are you looking for?”
End Scene

Adanya took her time and listen to all my skin concerns. She suggested a number of products that she knows firsthand have worked for others and herself. She brought me over to a makeup stand and tried a few products on me, did side by side comparisons and asked my opinion along the way! She was patient and kind and overall she turned what could have been a really bad experience and situation into a really positive one.

After Adanya finished with me, I left feeling successful and spent all my dough( well birthday gift cards 🙂 )  on every product she suggested! ( I will do a beauty blog in the future about my oily skin make up products) Now, they don’t work on commission at Sephora but I made sure to ask to speak to a manager after I made my purchase, I explained the whole ” Jill ” situation to her and how pleased I was with Adanya and how she really turned my horrible visit into a good one! She then in return comped me for one of the products I purchased and gave me a coupon for 20 percent off of my next purchase ( Look at God!! Lol)  She also told me that it was Adanya’s first day on the job independently! Bonus points for Adanya!

I really I had to write this to prove that God really can change a person. The old me would’ve caused a scene and made a real stink! I thank Him for instilling peace and grace in me to just brush nonsense like “Jill” to the side. It’s so not worth it!

The tagline scripture of this blog is Luke 6:27-28 and it reads”

27“But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,28bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

So no matter how insulted I felt in that moment, I just have to love her ( and others) anyway! So many people are made to feel unpretty and not worthy by ignorant people! Please don’t let people dictate how you feel about yourself. The group TLC has a song called “Unpretty” that really touches on this topic.

You can buy your hair if it won’t grow
You can fix your nose if he says so
You can buy all the make up
That M.A.C. can make
But if you can’t look inside you
Find out who am I too
Be in the position to make me feel
So damn unpretty
I’ll make you feel unpretty too

Never let anyone make you feel unpretty! You’re BEAUTIFUL!

Beauty Blog: I May Have A Purple Lipstick Obsession….

Beauty Blog: I May Have A Purple Lipstick Obsession….

Hey y’all

I’m back again with another beauty blog! Awhile ago , I did a post on my favorite red lipsticks. I figured I would continue the trend with my other lipsticks focusing on my purple, pink and nude shades of lipsticks. Today, lets focus on the purples.

While going through my collection of lipsticks and compiling my purple ones, I realized that I might have an obsession with purple lipsticks! I have 8 of them in total. 6 of them are from MAC, 1 from Stila and 1 from the Kat Von D line. So lets jump right in an discuss them.

Let’s start with the MAC shades: Rebel, Up the Amp, Heroine, Men Love Mystery, Smoked Purple, and Cyber.

Rebel: This was one of my first MAC lipsticks and my very first purple shade. This lipstick is purple with a red undertone. It has a satin finish that dries semi matte. It’s a shade I usually wear as a stand alone but it can be paired with a lip liner like MAC’s Currant. This is a shade I reach for more in the fall season.

Heroine: I LOVE this lipstick! It’s probably in my top five favorite lip products ever! I reach for this lipstick at least once a week (lol) It’s a vibrant purple shade. I usually pair this with Currant , Chestnut or Nightmoth Lip liners from MAC. It is a retro matte formula so it is super drying ( similar to the effects of Ruby Woo) but that can be rectified with properly moisturized lips and a lip primer.

Up the Amp: Love this shade. It’s the  purple I tend to reach for the most in the springtime. Its an amplified creme finish. Super pigmented. I wear this with Chestnut lip liner religiously. I particularly love this one because it has a pink undertone, which I find to be extremely flattering on those who are of a darker complexion like me.

Men Love Mystery: Pretty similar to Up the Amp but this is a matte formula. It’s actually a pretty close dupe to MAC’s RIRI Boy lipstick that was a limited edition release. Chestnut lip liner is my go to for this lipstick. I like it well enough but Up the Amp still reigns supreme for me 🙂

Smoked Purple: The perfect vampy purple. I must admit I was a little timid about trying this shade. But boy oh boy when I did …. sold! I like to line and fill in my lips with Nightmoth lip liner before applying it. It is a matte formula so it is another super drying lippie. One of my favorite lipsticks to pull out in the winter season or one a day I’m going for a Gothic glam look 🙂

FullSizeRender

Cyber: Cyber is essentially Smoked Purple with a different finish and maybe a tad bit darker. While Smoked Purple is a matte finish, Cyber is a satin finish. This is my least favorite lipstick in my purple collection and I probably wont ever repurchase.

On to the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick purple that I have in the shade Como. It’s from the Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick Summer Collection. I LOVE this shade. It’s like a mash-up of all my favorite purples in a super long-lasting formula. Truly, it’s very similar to Heroine. I really need to repurchase this one because I have been using it allllllllll summer long so far. I love the packaging, the formula just everything about it!

Last but not least, Kat Von D’s L.UV from her Everlasting Liquid Lipstick line. Super drying formula, but this lipstick is truly ever lasting! I could eat, drink, skydive and this lipstick is not going anywhere! Another lipstick that is very similar to Heroine.

If I had to pick a favorite lipstick out of these ones it would be too hard! I love them all for different reasons. If I had to narrow it down,  I would have to choose Heroine with Como as a close second. Como is a pretty similar in shade but I love the long-lasting durability of the formula for those days that I don’t necessarily have time to touch up my lipstick.

What’s your favorite purple lipstick shade? Are there any others I should try? Let me know!

xoxo

Beauty Blog: Battle of The Red Lips!

Beauty Blog: Battle of The Red Lips!

Hey guys!

I’m back again with another beauty blog! In this blog I am going to discuss my absolute favorite and timeless beauty trend: The Red Lip! The first lipstick I ever purchased with my own money was a red lipstick. I know pretty bold for someone who up until about 2012 NEVER wore anything but lip gloss from Bath and Body Works or EOS lip balm or the tried and true Vaseline (hangs head in shame)

But then one day, I collected six empty containers from MAC ( MAC has a recycling program. If you return 6 empty containers , you can choose a free lipstick!) and I said let me step way out of my comfort zone and try a red lipstick. Growing up with Jamaican Christian parents, big bold lipsticks like the red one I chose was totally out of the question as a teen. But in 2012 as a twenty something year old woman, their opinion no longer mattered LOL.

So, I asked the lady at the counter which red lipstick she would recommend for me and she led me in the direction of the gorgeous and timeless shade of Ruby Woo!!!  I fell in love! That started my lipstick junkie journey! I now own over 20 MAC lipsticks 😛 . But, it really started my love affair with red lipstick. I actually don’t own that many, just 3. ( I’m not including MAC Diva because its more of a burgundy/ brown to me even though its classified as a red)

The three red shades I have all come from different companies. I have of course the shade “Ruby Woo” by MAC Cosmetics. I also have “Fiery” from the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick Collection and “Outlaw” from the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick” line. Each one of these products has its pros and cons. Let’s go through them together

Let’s begin with Ruby Woo: Ruby Woo is a very pigmented matte red shade with blue undertones. The pros of Ruby Woo are as follows:

Pros:

  •  very long-lasting
  • super pigmented
  • fantastic coverage
  • compliments all complexions
  • makes your teeth look super white! 😛

However it does have a few cons:

Cons:

  • Extremely drying formula ( must exfoliate lips well before using this product)
  • Has a tendency to feather and fade after a few hours of wear. ( nothing that can’t be rectified with a lip liner or lip primer)

Next up “Outlaw” by Kat Von D. Outlaw is a described as a brick-red shade. A true “pin-up” red.

The pros and cons for this product are as follows:

Pros:

  • super long-lasting ( I mean it takes divine intervention to remove these!)
  • extremely pigmented
  • non-transferable
  • compliments all if not most complexions

Cons:

  • very drying formula ( easily rectified with a lip scrub/vaseline primer prior to application. If you don’t moisturize your lips beforehand, it will show every crack and crevice on your lips.
  • You need a very steady hand to apply because if you make a mistake, you will have to start all over. It will stain your face too lol
  • really need a lip liner to help keep this from feathering
  • Will rub off if eating something especially greasy.

Lastly, “Fiery” from the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick line. The pros and cons are as follows:

Pros:

  • Long lasting
  • very pigmented
  • feels very light on the lips
  • Doesnt need a lip liner

Cons:

  • fades easily if eating food that is greasy
  • will stain if not applied with a steady hand.

Okay now that I’ve laid out my pros and cons for these products let me rank them from least favorite to  most favorite. Drum roll please ( insert drum-roll lol)

3. My least favorite is “Outlaw” . I’ve tried to manipulate it by using lip liners and a lip primer but I just don’t like the formula of this particular Kat Von D Shade. ( all the others I own I absolutely love) I would probably never repurchase this lip product. I give it a 2 out of 5 stars.

2. The one that lands right in the middle is “Fiery”. I love the way it feels so light on my lips. I love that is super pigmented. I guess i’m just kind of indifferent towards this shade. I wouldn’t lose any sleep if this shade was discontinued, but I would reach for it randomly if it was around 🙂 4 out of 5 stars.

1. That of course leaves my beloved Ruby Woo! I love everything about this lipstick. I love that I can wear this as a stand alone or I can pair it with a brown or plum lip liner and change the appearance. Ruby Woo is a lipstick my makeup kit can never be without. As long as the shade is in production , I will own it. Ruby Woo is fierce! Fantastic! 5 out of 5 stars.

You may stray away but you always come back to your first love! Ruby Woo, you my boo!! 😛

What’s your favorite red lipstick?

Are They Worth The Hype? : Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks

**Disclaimer: I am not sponsored by this company. All products mentioned were purchased by me. This review is solely my opinion.**

Hi guys!

I’m back again with another beauty review! By now you all know I’m a lipstick junkie. ( see my blog post: Confessions of a Lipstick Junkie)

I used to stick to my Mac lipsticks and a few drugstore brands. Then I ventured into the world of Kat Von D liquid lipsticks and I was sold on the whole liquid lipstick phenomenon! Now, I’m a person, when I find a brand I love, I wear the heck out of the brand. But with Kat Von D, I think I have purchased all the shades that I know I will wear and wear well! Being the YouTube addict that I am, ( lol) I do watch a lot of beauty vloggers and it appears that everybody (and their mama)  had something to say about the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks. Some were positive reviews and some not so positive. I’m the kind of person who likes to try something and form my own opinions. So recently, I went out and purchased three of the Stila liquid lipsticks to try. Before I share my opinions, lets discuss the product itself. (These details were found on the Sephora.com website.)

What is It:
A highly pigmented, liquid lipstick that’s weightless on the lips and delivers long-lasting coverage.

What it does:
This creamy, full-coverage lip color provides intense hydration with bold, long-lasting pigment that stays put for up to six hours of continuous wear. Featuring an array of matte and shimmer shades, this lip formula imparts a comfortable texture that feels lightweight on lips, and its color-rich formula does not bleed or transfer. Enriched with vitamin E and avocado oil, Stay All Day® Liquid Lipstick hydrates and softens lips so they look and feel beautiful.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

What’s is also cool about this product is that they are free of synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, GMOs, and triclosan!

So the first shade I purchased was Patina. Patina is one of the most popular shades that Stila has. It is always sold out online and when my local Sephora carried the Stila brand ( they now do not 😦 ) it was always sold out there do. However,my local Shopper’s Drug Mart ( that’s a Canadian drug store similar to a CVS, Walgreens or Rite Aid for my American subscribers) has a beauty boutique inside and alas my beloved Patina was there! Score!

Patina is described as a dusty rose shade with a matte finish. I must say on all the beauty blogs this shade attracted me the most as I saw many women of colour ( similar to my complexion) wearing this colour and rocking it! I swatched it on my arm and loved it… then I put it on my lips with no liner and my lord was it AWFUL! So I tried it again, lining and filling in my lips with MACs chestnut lip liner and voila! I was in love! This shade is similar to Kat Von D’s “Lolita” but where Lolita has more of a brown undertone, Patina has more of a pinky mauve undertone. Both are equally gorgeous.

Patina

The next shade I purchased was “Fiery”. Fiery is described as a deep red shade. I struggled with choosing this shade because there is another shade called “Beso” which is described as a “true red”. Upon some discussion with my awesome Beauty consultant Kat, we decided that Fiery would suit me better. Again I lined my lips with my chestnut liner and was pleased! I found that this shade had a little more of an orange undertone, but I do believe if I line my lips with Mac’s cherry lip liner or with the Ruby Woo lip liner, this lip would be perfect! I do think I would like to try Beso at some point 🙂

Fiery

Finally the last shade I purchased was totally on a whim! Stila recently released five new summer shades and one of those shades was a BEAUTIFUL violet shade called “Como”. Now you all know,I am a sucker for a purple lip! When Kat swatched that on my hand I was sold! This shade reminds me of an even more pigmented version of Mac’s Heroine lipstick. ( Yes I know all of my references are Mac! What can I say, I’m a Mac girl at heart!) It’s also, really similar to Kat Von D ‘s  L.U.V. . I’ve worn this shade twice already! Once I paired this with Mac’s Nightmoth lip liner and I also wore as a stand alone! Love it! I do reckon I’ll be wearing this shade for most of the summer! 😛

Now that I’ve shared which colours I picked up, I would like to share the pros and cons of the product.

Pros
– super pigmented
– formula is not too drying
– easy to apply because of the doe foot applicator
– long-lasting to an extent ( meaning if you are not eating anything greasy lol)
– true to colour ( what you see in the tube is actually pretty accurate to the colour of the product).

Cons:
– stains easily ( if you mess up, you will have to start over)
– if you lips are not moisturized prior to using them, they show every imperfection and your lips will flake.
– expensive  ( Canadian Dollars $29)
-Stila stay all day is actually more like Stila stay until you eat pizza 😦  or drink from a straw 😦
– Takes quite awhile to dry

Bottom line: I’m not super in love with these lip stains. Perhaps I didn’t let them dry enough before I tested their durability. Maybe I’m just partial to the Kat Von D formula which I find can literally last through anything, greasy pizza and all lol! I do love how pigmented they are and I also love that the formula is a little less drying than Kat Von D’s formula. I do love Como though, But other than that, I’m not super in love with them. Would I purchase them again…. meh…. LOL! I do want to try Beso though, I feel like that shade is the perfect red lipstick that I have been looking for! 🙂

Beso

Have you guys tried the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks? What do you think? Let me know!
