Style Sunday: Boohoo x Wedding Season…

Hi guys!

I took a much needed hiatus from the blog world.l I just wanted to enjoy my extremely busy summer without the constraints of deadlines and computer screens! I had the opportunity to attend quite a few weddings this summer season. I’d like to share with you what I wore to these events with outfits I found on the popular retail site Boohoo!

Boohoo is an affordable fashion site that caters to needs of men and women of all sizes. It offers a variety of style options ranging from extremely casual to fancy attire.

Today I’m going to showcase two dresses I purchased. At first glance, the dresses seemed very casual ( based on the material).  But once they were accessorized and I dolled myself up they became real showstoppers!

Look One: The Red Dress…

I purchased the dress actually way back in March to wear to another event but I went another direction. I was able to pull it out for a beautiful wedding in July.

Womens Red Off The Shoulder Wrap Midi Bodycon Dress alternative image

This dress is a polyester blend dress. It is an off the shoulder piece that has a front tie, balloon sleeves and is midi length. This dress was the perfect, lightweight material and length for quite a warm summer day.

I pair this dress with silver jewelry. Teardrop bling earrings ( that were gifted to me by a friend) a silver pandora charm bracelet and a jewel and crystal statement necklace from Aldo Accessories. I added silver peep-toe heels from Call it Spring.

I kept my makeup very neutral as the dress was such a bold colour.

I purchased this dress for the amazingly low price of $33.00! ( Canadian currency) I loved this outfit and I hope the opportunity presents itself where I can wear this dress again!

( PS: All of us ladies wearing red  WAS NOT PLANNED! LOL. Great minds think alike I guess! 🙂

Look 2: The Yellow Dress

Anyone who knows me, knows my favourite colour is purple. However, my favourite colour to wear is…. you guessed it… yellow !

I had another wedding to attend this summer. This time it was in Montreal , Quebec which is about a 6-7 hour drive from where I live. The vision that I had in my head was that I wanted to look like sunshine. This was the wedding of my very good friend aka my “nephew” and his beautiful bride. I wanted a dress to really support the joy I was anticipating to feel on their special day! I smile every single time I see yellow , so yellow was the only option for me 😉

Once again I went to Boohoo to try and make my vision a reality.  I found exactly what I was looking for!

This dress is the same type of material as the first dress; a polyester blend. This dress is also an off the shoulder piece.  It is a wrap style dress, which I loved because it was very  forgiving in the mid-section area. What also drew me to this piece was the front split. It just added a nice flair to the otherwise very simple piece.

To to take this dress to the next level, I paired it with some yellow statement earrings from Forever 21. I added some gold bangles and kept my gold nameplate necklace on. The earrings were already so bold that I didn’t want to make myself look too busy.

I added some lucite cinderella slipper heels  from Fashion Nova. ( I don’t know If I can ever wear these again! They were so painful!) I also added a piece of kente cloth material that I used as a shawl in the day and a headwrap at the after party! 🙂   I also addded a clear purse with a pink insert from Forever 21 to complete the look.

This dress also retailed for only $33.00!

Would I reccomend Boohoo? Absolutely! I would defintely suggest you check it out if you are looking for a beautiful  budget friendly piece!

That’s it for summer wedding looks!   Come back next week and see my summer bridesmaid look !

Til next time….

Monday Motivation: Touch The Hem…

Monday Motivation: Touch The Hem…

Hey guys!

There are some biblical stories that are always talked about; David and Goliath, Adam and Eve, The birth of Jesus and his subsequent Crucifixion and so forth .But there is a story in the bible that is not often talked about.  It is the story of the woman with the issue of blood .

In this story there was a woman who was suffering with the condition of constant and continuous bleeding for TWELVE YEARS, Now in biblical times, when a woman was bleeding, it was a sign of being “unclean”. Now imagine, for twelve long years you are basically a pariah in your community.  She was prohibited from entering the synagogue and anything she touched became unclean as well.  Even if anybody bumped into her and came into contact with her they too became unclean. I can’t even begin to imagine what she must’ve been feeling. Isolated, alone, without hope.

Anyway, she had tried everything to get well. Seen doctors,  spent all she had on treatments. She was down to her last bit of will! She was looking for a miracle. She heard Jesus was passing by and decided within herself that  If she could only touch the hem of his garment ( robes) that she would be made well.

Now lets put this is perspective for a minute. Jesus drew a big crowd wherever he went. She was deemed unclean…. she entered this crowd. What do you think the people around her were thinking? What do you think they were saying? She didn’t care ! She was determined to just touch his hem and receive her miracle that day!

So, she reached out and touched the hem of his garment and instantly  the blood dried up and she was healed. Jesus, feeling the power come out of Him turned around and said, ,”Who touched me?”. He looked down and saw the woman and said to her, “Daughter your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be healed! ( Mark 5:22)

It seems that there is something new to learn every time you read a story in the bible and here’s what I took from this story this time:

What really inspired me was her  faith and determination. No matter what people were saying about her, despite her condition, she was not going to miss her opportunity for healing. She was determined to touch Jesus and be made well! Now Jesus could have felt the power of healing leave His body and kept on walking to where he was going. Nobody would  have known what had taken place except for Him and the woman. But instead , He acknowledged her and her perseverance. I say all that to say that Jesus sees and hears you when you cry out to Him! Keep listening! He’s acknowledging your faithfulness!

If only we could have faith like the woman with the issue of blood. That no matter our circumstances, we aren’t going to let any opportunity to touch Jesus pass us by! It’s obvious that while we are unable to physically touch Jesus while we are here on earth, there is another way “touch his hem” and that is…. PRAYER!

Prayer= Communication with God

Hebrews 4:16 states, “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

Whatever it is you need from God whether it be a physical healing or even a mental or spiritual healing, reach out and touch his hem! Don’t miss your opportunity!

There is a song by Fred Hammond called “Let Me Touch The Hem” that is so fitting for this post. The lyrics are simply:

Let me touch the hem of His garment
touch the hem of His garment
and I will be made whole
(Repeat)

For the Lord is passsing by
Yes the Lord is passing by
His wondrous healing virture just take hold
So as He’s drawing nigh
Don’t let this moment pass you by
He can heal your body, your spirtit, and your soul
(Repeat)

You can find the story of the woman with the issue of blood in various parts of the New Testament: Matthew 9: 19-22, Mark 5:25-34 and Luke 8:43-48

Be blessed guys! Have beautiful and blessed week!

Style Sunday: Polka Dot Dress…

Style Sunday: Polka Dot Dress…

Hey guys!

I’m back again with another edition of “Style Sunday”. This one features a steal! As I was perusing the shelves at my local H&M I saw this cream coloured dress with black and brown polka dots on it. I just looked at it and decided it was ugly! But I have a thing for “ugly” patterns and prints. Something about them just calls to me, as was the case with this dress!

img_3943

This dress is made from polyester material. It has three quarter length sleeves and its length reaches just below the knees… on me that is ( I’m only 5’3 1/2!) It tapers in at the waist to help give the dress some shape. This dress also boasts a large keyhole opening at the back of the dress. I however chose to keep It modest and paired It with a camisole to cover my back. I mean I’m all for a open back, but seeing as I was heading to church this morning,I felt as if modesty was key!

I woke this morning to lots of snow falling so that changed my shoe plans. I just wasn’t in the mood to wear winter boots and change my shoes when I got to church, so I opted for a pair of cognac coloured booties that I’ve had for at least a decade… they’ve got some wear and tear to them!

I felt a little fancy so I finished off the outfit with my freshwater pearl set from ” Lia Sophia” ( a gift from a dear friend as token for being in her wedding 🙂 love ya girl!)

img_3944

Here’s what I wore on my face:

L.A. Girl Concealer in the shade “Fawn”
Laura Mercier  loose setting powder
Becca X Jaclyn Hill Highlight in “Champagne Pop” and “Amaretto”
Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner in the colour “Onyx”
MAC “Chestnut” lip liner paired with Kat Von D ” Crucifix”

None of the clothing I wore today is still available for purchase, but here are some links to some similar items if you are interested in recreating this look!

And here’s the final look…

Style Sunday: Fall Sunday Outfit…

Style Sunday: Fall Sunday Outfit…

Hey guys!

Sorry I’ve been M.I.A. ! I had the flu and then I  also had some technical difficulties… but I’m back!!!

This weekend the USA celebrated Thanksgiving ( happy belated Thanksgiving to my American readers) and after Thanksgiving comes the shopping frenzy that is Black Friday! Canada( where I live) in recent years have jumped on the Black Friday  marketing madness and have brought some of those knock out sales to our stores! So naturally I hopped on the chance to shop quality items at Sophie approved prices AKA sale!

So bright and early before work, I ran to my closest shopping centre to peruse the stores and see if I could find anything I needed/wanted and to get a few Christmas presents out of the way. I found magnificent deals at Old Navy, Aldo and H&M and of course my holy grail store ( say it with me long  time readers…) Forever  21!

The item I am featuring today is from Forever 21. I was in the store a few days prior and a camel coloured bodycon dress caught my eye; check it out here: This dress retails for $22.90 (Canadian) but because of Black Friday sales  I was able to purchase it for 21% off! (YAY ME!! )

I really liked It because it was super simple but to make it a little fancy, it had a really nice side slit.  I paired this dress with a chunky black necklace given to me as a gift and some three inch black booties purchased years ago at Payless shoes ( I’ve mentioned them a million times on here) To finish the look off I added chunky round ring purchased at the Slauson swap meet in LA a long time ago and a black and gold studded bracelet.

I beat my face with a little help from Sephora 😛 and away I went!

I hope you guys I have an amazingly fashionable week and remember…

Style Sunday: Girls Night Out…

Style Sunday: Girls Night Out…

Hey guys!

Quick post today! This weekend I had a weekend I had an opportunity to get together with some of my gal pals! We all met up in the downtown Toronto area, as it is the most central location for all of us.  We were going to be taking transit because it’s so much easier to navigate the downtown core on the subway or a street car than it is to try and find ( and pay for) parking! So I needed an outfit that was super cute and super comfortable!

img_3175

Here’s what I wore:

Black Tights: My absolute favourite tights from Garage Clothing. Very comfy and the shiny material makes them a little dressier than your average black tight.

Mustard Yellow Top: Purple is my favourite colour but yellow is my favourite colour to wear! I found a mustard yellow  top with black pinstripes on sale at Old Navy for like 8 dollars I think!  3 quarter length sleeves and and a scoop neck make this a super casual yet trendy top.

Pins: The top I wore was very simple so to jazz it up a bit I  added some  pin patches. Pin patches were the in thing in the early 90’s when I was a little kid ( 5-6 or so) and I remember having a sweet denim jacket with tons of patches on it. So imagine my elation to see that this trend has made its way back around! Lots of stores have them and they are actually adult appropriate! I purchased the ones I was wearing from Aldo Accessories. Super cute and easy remedy to spice up  a plain(ish) top.

Similar to these ones…

Necklace:  I had to throw on my favourite choker from Aldo Accessories. Black velvet with a tiny gold cross pendant.

Shoes:  I threw on my trusted little tiger striped booties from an Aldo Outlet store many years ago. They are so comfortable which was perfect for the walking we did!

So that’s it folks! Have an amazingly stylish week and remember….

Style Sunday: Quick Outfit…

Style Sunday: Quick Outfit…

Quick post today guys!

What a busy weekend it was and nothing is worse than not getting enough sleep and waking up LATE!  I had to be at church this morning and usually I wake up early enough to lay in the bed and create outfit options before I get up. Folks, today was not that day! (lol) I jumped up and literally grabbed the first outfit that made sense to me! Here’s what it was:

A  wool black skirt:  I found this skirt last year at Joe Fresh for a whopping.. wait for it…. $6.94 ( Canadian dollars) What a steal! This skirt is so comfortable. Perfect for a day like today when I was in a rush and it was damp and cold today.

A black t-shirt: A simple t shirt from Forever 21 that retails for $5.00! It’s always good to have a regular black tee that you can wear alone or use for layering.

A olive green short sleeve cardigan: I think I purchased this also at Forever 21 for $19.99 or so. I love this cardigan because you can dress it up or dress it down.

Black booties: Simple black booties from Payless Shoes! My absolute favs! So comfy

I kept my make-up basic because frankly I didn’t have time to do it! ( it was a rough one y’all lol) Basic black eyeliner and a wine lip ( my current fall obsession)

Next week I’ll be back in full effect! Have a wonderful stylish week!!!

Style Sunday: Millennial 90’s Vibe…

Style Sunday: Millennial 90’s Vibe…

Hey y’all!

I fell asleep guys. That beautiful Sunday afternoon nap caught me and I am just waking up so please excuse the tardiness of this post! 🙂

I’m an 80’s baby, so I was born at time where by the time I was a “pre-teen” 9o’s fashion was the rage! I’m so excited about fashion these days with the resurgence of the 90’s era, and have slowly been integrating certain pieces into my wardrobe. Chokers? Yes please! Patches? Of course! Over the knee socks and loafers? Most definitely!

Here’s an outfit I wore today that really made me feel like it was 1994…. but with a millennial spin! Enjoy!

img_2954 The Dress: I purchased this dress… oh at least ten years ago from a store called Dynamite. I have no idea what I paid for it however knowing myself…. it was on sale! (lol) This dress is an A-Line dress that stops just above the knee. In the photo it looks black and white, but it is actually a very muted salmon pink and black. I love the long sleeves for fall, it keeps you warm, but not quite winter warm! I love this dress and I am so happy it still fits!! I placed a black camisole underneath to contain “the girls” 😛  as I was heading to church!

The Vest: I love this vest! I purchased it last year at a store called Sirens. It’s so versatile. I can dress it up or dress it down. It added that extra layer I needed to pull this outfit together. It has pockets y’all ( you know I love a good pocket) This vest also boasts cut out details on the side.

The Boots: Guys………. These boots are like my all time favorite boots! Faux suede over the knee boots, with a 4 inch platform heel! Again, these boots are very old so I don’t remember where I got them. They are definitely not walking boots…. or even standing for too long boots. They are not very comfortable… but they look good!! : )

The Jewels: Kept it super simple. I threw on my favorite choker that I purchased at Aldo Accessories. Velvet and a gold( tone) cross. Simple.. elegant and so 90’s.  I just kept my silver studs in my second holes because frankly I forgot to put earrings on (lol)

The Face:
Face: Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in the shade Benares.
Concealer: Covergirl Queen Collection in the shade Terracotta
Highlighter: Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette mixing the shade Champagne pop and Rose Spritz
Eyes:  Take me to Brazil Palette ( deep pink colour) and black. It’s Judy Time Palette mix of a shimmery purple shade and a brown shade ( transition colour).  Essence liquid eyeliner
Lip: Exorcism Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick with Vino lip liner from MAC.

Hair: The usual! Flexi rod curls for the win!

Have an amazing week guys
