Style Sunday: Boohoo x Wedding Season…

Hi guys!

I took a much needed hiatus from the blog world.l I just wanted to enjoy my extremely busy summer without the constraints of deadlines and computer screens! I had the opportunity to attend quite a few weddings this summer season. I’d like to share with you what I wore to these events with outfits I found on the popular retail site Boohoo!

Boohoo is an affordable fashion site that caters to needs of men and women of all sizes. It offers a variety of style options ranging from extremely casual to fancy attire.

Today I’m going to showcase two dresses I purchased. At first glance, the dresses seemed very casual ( based on the material).  But once they were accessorized and I dolled myself up they became real showstoppers!

Look One: The Red Dress…

I purchased the dress actually way back in March to wear to another event but I went another direction. I was able to pull it out for a beautiful wedding in July.

Womens Red Off The Shoulder Wrap Midi Bodycon Dress alternative image

This dress is a polyester blend dress. It is an off the shoulder piece that has a front tie, balloon sleeves and is midi length. This dress was the perfect, lightweight material and length for quite a warm summer day.

I pair this dress with silver jewelry. Teardrop bling earrings ( that were gifted to me by a friend) a silver pandora charm bracelet and a jewel and crystal statement necklace from Aldo Accessories. I added silver peep-toe heels from Call it Spring.

I kept my makeup very neutral as the dress was such a bold colour.

I purchased this dress for the amazingly low price of $33.00! ( Canadian currency) I loved this outfit and I hope the opportunity presents itself where I can wear this dress again!

( PS: All of us ladies wearing red  WAS NOT PLANNED! LOL. Great minds think alike I guess! 🙂

Look 2: The Yellow Dress

Anyone who knows me, knows my favourite colour is purple. However, my favourite colour to wear is…. you guessed it… yellow !

I had another wedding to attend this summer. This time it was in Montreal , Quebec which is about a 6-7 hour drive from where I live. The vision that I had in my head was that I wanted to look like sunshine. This was the wedding of my very good friend aka my “nephew” and his beautiful bride. I wanted a dress to really support the joy I was anticipating to feel on their special day! I smile every single time I see yellow , so yellow was the only option for me 😉

Once again I went to Boohoo to try and make my vision a reality.  I found exactly what I was looking for!

This dress is the same type of material as the first dress; a polyester blend. This dress is also an off the shoulder piece.  It is a wrap style dress, which I loved because it was very  forgiving in the mid-section area. What also drew me to this piece was the front split. It just added a nice flair to the otherwise very simple piece.

To to take this dress to the next level, I paired it with some yellow statement earrings from Forever 21. I added some gold bangles and kept my gold nameplate necklace on. The earrings were already so bold that I didn’t want to make myself look too busy.

I added some lucite cinderella slipper heels  from Fashion Nova. ( I don’t know If I can ever wear these again! They were so painful!) I also added a piece of kente cloth material that I used as a shawl in the day and a headwrap at the after party! 🙂   I also addded a clear purse with a pink insert from Forever 21 to complete the look.

This dress also retailed for only $33.00!

Would I reccomend Boohoo? Absolutely! I would defintely suggest you check it out if you are looking for a beautiful  budget friendly piece!

That’s it for summer wedding looks!   Come back next week and see my summer bridesmaid look !

Til next time….

Are They Worth The Hype: Tatcha Water Cream and Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser

Are They Worth The Hype: Tatcha Water Cream and Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser

Hey y’all!

It’s been quite some time since I tried any new skin care products. Over the past few months, my general health has been going through some changes ( nothing too serious so don’t be alarmed 🙂 ) and as a result of that my skin has been going through it y’ all! I have been blessed to have had overall good skin throughout my life. Barely a blemish… EVER! Until recently my face has been experiencing said blemishes, dullness and is just overall BLAH. So, I  decided to test a few different products out to try and figure out a new routine to get my skin back on track- starting with these two Tatcha products.

Now, these products ARE NOT products I would ever purchase on my own simply because of the price. But the Sephora VIB sale and the travel sizes of these two products made this possible(LOL) so thank you Sephora! Let’s get to reviewing!

 Tatcha Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser:

This is a gel cleanser product which is ( as I’ve been told) great for the oily /combination skin that I have.

The Packaging:

The soft teal colour of the packaging is appealing to the eye. What I don’t care for in this product’s container, is that I’m not a huge fan of the squeeze bottle top. The hole is so small that you have to give it a good squeeze to get the product out and some times too much product comes out.

The Product:

I absolutely love how much of a gentle exfoliant this product is! You most definitely can feel it breaking down the debris on your skin but it isn’t harsh. It also leaves your skin feeling ever so soft.  A little bit of this product goes a long way. It has a light, fresh and fruity scent that is very appealing to my nose!

Results on my skin:

I used this product for about 2 weeks consistently on my skin and honestly, I didn’t notice that huge of a difference on my skin except I  did notice that I was slightly less oily.

Cost:

A 5 oz bottle of this product will run you… $49.00 ( Canadian Currency) Yikes…

Is it Worth The Hype:

No. And the price of this product solidifies this for me

Tatcha - The Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser 5 oz/ 150 mL Clean at Sephora

Tatcha Water Cream

So many beauty influencers swear by this cream so I decided to give it try! I truly wanted to know what all the hype was about…

The Packaging:

Once again the teal packaging with gold accents was really appealing to the eye. I liked that this cream came in jar form. It really allowed for the careful distribution of the product.

The Product:

The thin water like texture was very appealing to me. A small amount of the product was able to effectively moisturize my entire face without adding excess oil to my skin.

Results on my skin:

Ok, I loved this product! While I have combination skin with the majority of oils settling on my t-zone, my skin still had the ability to look dull and sallow.  This product really helped bring life back to my skin! I felt comfortable enough to go bare-faced after a few weeks of consistent use.

Cost: A 1.70z jar of this will cost you $89.00 ( Canadian) YIKES!

Is it Worth The Hype:

Yes! I love how it worked for my skin. However, the price point certainly kept me on the hunt for products that are more cost effective. (stayed tuned)

Tatcha - The Water Cream 1.7 oz/ 50 mL Clean at Sephora

I was able to purchase the travel sized duo of these products for only $33.00( Canadian) at my local Sephora.

That’s it for now! Stay tuned for my reviews on other skin care products!

Monday Motivation: Touch The Hem…

Monday Motivation: Touch The Hem…

Hey guys!

There are some biblical stories that are always talked about; David and Goliath, Adam and Eve, The birth of Jesus and his subsequent Crucifixion and so forth .But there is a story in the bible that is not often talked about.  It is the story of the woman with the issue of blood .

In this story there was a woman who was suffering with the condition of constant and continuous bleeding for TWELVE YEARS, Now in biblical times, when a woman was bleeding, it was a sign of being “unclean”. Now imagine, for twelve long years you are basically a pariah in your community.  She was prohibited from entering the synagogue and anything she touched became unclean as well.  Even if anybody bumped into her and came into contact with her they too became unclean. I can’t even begin to imagine what she must’ve been feeling. Isolated, alone, without hope.

Anyway, she had tried everything to get well. Seen doctors,  spent all she had on treatments. She was down to her last bit of will! She was looking for a miracle. She heard Jesus was passing by and decided within herself that  If she could only touch the hem of his garment ( robes) that she would be made well.

Now lets put this is perspective for a minute. Jesus drew a big crowd wherever he went. She was deemed unclean…. she entered this crowd. What do you think the people around her were thinking? What do you think they were saying? She didn’t care ! She was determined to just touch his hem and receive her miracle that day!

So, she reached out and touched the hem of his garment and instantly  the blood dried up and she was healed. Jesus, feeling the power come out of Him turned around and said, ,”Who touched me?”. He looked down and saw the woman and said to her, “Daughter your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be healed! ( Mark 5:22)

It seems that there is something new to learn every time you read a story in the bible and here’s what I took from this story this time:

What really inspired me was her  faith and determination. No matter what people were saying about her, despite her condition, she was not going to miss her opportunity for healing. She was determined to touch Jesus and be made well! Now Jesus could have felt the power of healing leave His body and kept on walking to where he was going. Nobody would  have known what had taken place except for Him and the woman. But instead , He acknowledged her and her perseverance. I say all that to say that Jesus sees and hears you when you cry out to Him! Keep listening! He’s acknowledging your faithfulness!

If only we could have faith like the woman with the issue of blood. That no matter our circumstances, we aren’t going to let any opportunity to touch Jesus pass us by! It’s obvious that while we are unable to physically touch Jesus while we are here on earth, there is another way “touch his hem” and that is…. PRAYER!

Prayer= Communication with God

Hebrews 4:16 states, “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

Whatever it is you need from God whether it be a physical healing or even a mental or spiritual healing, reach out and touch his hem! Don’t miss your opportunity!

There is a song by Fred Hammond called “Let Me Touch The Hem” that is so fitting for this post. The lyrics are simply:

Let me touch the hem of His garment
touch the hem of His garment
and I will be made whole
(Repeat)

For the Lord is passsing by
Yes the Lord is passing by
His wondrous healing virture just take hold
So as He’s drawing nigh
Don’t let this moment pass you by
He can heal your body, your spirtit, and your soul
(Repeat)

You can find the story of the woman with the issue of blood in various parts of the New Testament: Matthew 9: 19-22, Mark 5:25-34 and Luke 8:43-48

Be blessed guys! Have beautiful and blessed week!

Style Sunday: Polka Dot Dress…

Style Sunday: Polka Dot Dress…

Hey guys!

I’m back again with another edition of “Style Sunday”. This one features a steal! As I was perusing the shelves at my local H&M I saw this cream coloured dress with black and brown polka dots on it. I just looked at it and decided it was ugly! But I have a thing for “ugly” patterns and prints. Something about them just calls to me, as was the case with this dress!

img_3943

This dress is made from polyester material. It has three quarter length sleeves and its length reaches just below the knees… on me that is ( I’m only 5’3 1/2!) It tapers in at the waist to help give the dress some shape. This dress also boasts a large keyhole opening at the back of the dress. I however chose to keep It modest and paired It with a camisole to cover my back. I mean I’m all for a open back, but seeing as I was heading to church this morning,I felt as if modesty was key!

I woke this morning to lots of snow falling so that changed my shoe plans. I just wasn’t in the mood to wear winter boots and change my shoes when I got to church, so I opted for a pair of cognac coloured booties that I’ve had for at least a decade… they’ve got some wear and tear to them!

I felt a little fancy so I finished off the outfit with my freshwater pearl set from ” Lia Sophia” ( a gift from a dear friend as token for being in her wedding 🙂 love ya girl!)

img_3944

Here’s what I wore on my face:

L.A. Girl Concealer in the shade “Fawn”
Laura Mercier  loose setting powder
Becca X Jaclyn Hill Highlight in “Champagne Pop” and “Amaretto”
Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner in the colour “Onyx”
MAC “Chestnut” lip liner paired with Kat Von D ” Crucifix”

None of the clothing I wore today is still available for purchase, but here are some links to some similar items if you are interested in recreating this look!

And here’s the final look…

Style Sunday: Black and Beige…

Style Sunday: Black and Beige…

Hey guys!

Really quick post today!

Forgive me for going missing! I have been battling some health issues ( flu then bronchitis and throat infection and ear infection) This winter season has been really kicking my butt so I haven’t been wearing much more than sweatpants and hoodies for the  past two weeks! So today, I still wanted to keep my outfit pretty simple ( well simple on my terms anyway lol)  Here’s what I wore :

Black Pencil Skirt: I purchased this at Forever 21 a long time ago. Simple slip on skirt, with some ribbed detailing.
Black Long Sleeve Shirt: Cotton shirt I’m pretty sure I purchased at WalMart! I just needed a long sleeve black top to go underneath another piece I was wearing.
Beige Vest: Long, beige cape style vest made up of a soft polyester blend material. This was purchased last year at a store called Sirens!

Shoes: Beige suede stiletto lace up mule that I purchased at Aldo back in the fall.
Jewellery : Nothing but my trusty old cross/baby ring!

img_3870

Make-up was kept super simple with just some eyeliner ( Maybelline Unstoppable in “Onyx”) a light dusting of shadow ( Tartelette in Bloom Palette ) Mascara ( Maybelline Push Up Drama  In “Blackest Black” ) Foundation ( Nars in the shade” Benares”)  and to finish the look off Stila liquid lipstick in the shade “Amore” ( which is like my new fav by the way! ).  No contouring, No highlight nothing fancy ( I frankly didn’t have the energy)

So that’s it for today folks! Hopefully I’ll be back to full capacity soon… and remember….
slayXoxo

Style Sunday: Black and White Casual Outfit

Style Sunday: Black and White Casual Outfit

Hey guys!

Welcome to 2017’s first edition of “Style Sunday”.  Today is a super chill day so I just wanted to share with you a quick everyday  casual outfit. It seems as of late I have been gravitating towards really simple pieces in my wardrobe. Solid colours like black, white, grey and olive green ( and mustard yellow) have been the colours in my wardrobe palette as well as stripes and polka dots. I’ve also really begun to enjoy wearing running shoes ( tennis shoes, sneakers or trainers for my US and UK readers :p) so through the magic of Christmas , I have built a nice little selection!

So let’s begin! First I started off with a nice and shiny pair of black leggings from Garage Clothing. These  retail for $24.95 Canadian but I HAVE NEVER paid that much! I always seem to go into Garage when there is a 50% off sale.  These are the perfect leggings that are casual but still give you the option to dress them up if you wanted to.

Next, I added  a black and white v-neck long sleeved cotton shirt that I purchased at Old Navy on Boxing Day for 6 dollars! I am kicking myself that I didn’t buy the other colours as they are no longer in stores and not on the website!! Ah well you win some you lose some!  Old Navy has a similar one now on sale that retails for 15 dollars.

On my feet I wore a simple pair of black knee high boots that I purchased from Aldo shoes during their 40% off sale.  Super warm  and great for everyday wear.

arabia_96_fr_324

Last, I threw on a gold bar necklace that had some cute chain detailing, some red lips and eyeliner and I was ready to go! Last piece that I added was my cute backpack from Forever 21 (you know I couldn’t let a post go by without Forever 21 sneaking in there lol)

So that’s it folks! I look forward to sharing more fashion content with you this year!Have a stylishly wonderful week!

Happy New Year from me to you!!

Style Sunday: Fall Sunday Outfit…

Style Sunday: Fall Sunday Outfit…

Hey guys!

Sorry I’ve been M.I.A. ! I had the flu and then I  also had some technical difficulties… but I’m back!!!

This weekend the USA celebrated Thanksgiving ( happy belated Thanksgiving to my American readers) and after Thanksgiving comes the shopping frenzy that is Black Friday! Canada( where I live) in recent years have jumped on the Black Friday  marketing madness and have brought some of those knock out sales to our stores! So naturally I hopped on the chance to shop quality items at Sophie approved prices AKA sale!

So bright and early before work, I ran to my closest shopping centre to peruse the stores and see if I could find anything I needed/wanted and to get a few Christmas presents out of the way. I found magnificent deals at Old Navy, Aldo and H&M and of course my holy grail store ( say it with me long  time readers…) Forever  21!

The item I am featuring today is from Forever 21. I was in the store a few days prior and a camel coloured bodycon dress caught my eye; check it out here: This dress retails for $22.90 (Canadian) but because of Black Friday sales  I was able to purchase it for 21% off! (YAY ME!! )

I really liked It because it was super simple but to make it a little fancy, it had a really nice side slit.  I paired this dress with a chunky black necklace given to me as a gift and some three inch black booties purchased years ago at Payless shoes ( I’ve mentioned them a million times on here) To finish the look off I added chunky round ring purchased at the Slauson swap meet in LA a long time ago and a black and gold studded bracelet.

I beat my face with a little help from Sephora 😛 and away I went!

I hope you guys I have an amazingly fashionable week and remember…
