Don’t Cry…

Don’t Cry…

“Don’t cry… wipe your eyes! He’s not dead…”

Happy Easter folks! Quick post today! I hope today you are surrounded by friends or family and that you take a moment to reflect on the sacredness of today!

There are very few songs that can bring me to tears instantly. To name a few;  “Grace” by Tasha Cobbs, “Destiny” by Tina Campbell and the one this blog post is based on “Don’t Cry” by Kirk Franklin.

It’s not even a dramatically interesting arrangement, to be honest, but the lyrics in their simplicity really hit home. The lyrics read as follows:

Why do you cry? He has risen.
Why are you weeping? He’s not dead.

Why do you cry? he has risen.
Why are you weeping? He’s not dead.

He paid it all on that lonely highway
And his anointing I can feel.

He shed his blood
For my transgressions
And by his stripes, we are healed.

Why do you cry? He has risen.
Why are you weeping? He’s not dead.
So as you go through life’s journey
Don’t you worry lift up your head.
Don’t you cry  stop your weeping
He has risen He’s not dead.
Don’t cry
wipe your eyes
He’s not dead.
Don’t weep
He’s not asleep
Jehovah
He’s not dead

We often go through life ( even as Christians) doubting the magnitude of who Jesus Christ is and the sacrifice He made for us on the cross so many years ago. Because of the choice, He made to give HIs life for ours, we have a hope that should surpass all doubt!  Although He died and was buried, three short days later, He rose again and in that event, left us with the hope that He will one day return for us- His people.

There is hope in Jesus Christ! Maybe you’ve tried things your way for a long time, and things just don’t seem to be working out. If you haven’t already made a choice to get to know Jesus, take a few moments and pray this prayer with me:

Dear God,
Thank you for sending your son Jesus. I stand in awe of the sacrifice made for someone like me. I have been trying things my way for a long time, and now I want to put my life in your hands. I know that I am a sinner only saved by your grace  Please come into my heart. Guide my thoughts and point my life in a direction that is pleasing to you! Amen

Don’t Cry!

There is hope because our saviour is NOT DEAD!
He already took care of the perils of today at the cross long ago!

Rejoice in the peace that the saviour has RISEN!

Be Blessed!

May your Easter season be filled with love, joy and peace!

The Great Commission… Matthew 28

Hey guys!

Today is Easter Sunday my absolute favourite holiday ever! In the Pentecostal Christian faith we call this Sunday, “Resurrection Sunday” and on this Sunday I always like to re-read and meditate on Matthew 28( or the resurrection story) in some way or form.

On this Sunday, I was reminded of a song that I sang with the McMaster University Gospel Choir ( so many years ago… wow time flies!) under the direction of the uber talented Yhentyl Pryce. The song was a perfect and artistic representation of the events that took place leading up to, during and after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I loved it then and I love it even more now! Check out the lyrics/song down below:

Destroy this temple and in three days, I will raise it up [x3]

Early Sunday morning as the noon day was dawning,
Came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to the tomb.

Behold! There was a great earthquake! [x2]

For the angel of the Lord descended from Heaven
The angel of the Lord descended from Heaven [x3]

And rolled, rolled
And rolled,
Back the stone.

His countenance was like lightening and his raiment was as white as snow. [x3]

And for fear of Him the keepers did shake and became as dead men.

Fear not. [x3]
For I know ye seek Jesus who was crucified.
He is not here [x4]
For He has risen as he said.
Yeah!
See the place where the Lord lay.

Fear not. [x3]
For I know ye seek Jesus who was crucified.
He is not here [x4]
For He has risen as he said.
Yeah!
See the place where the Lord lay.

Remember how He said while He was yet in Galilee
I’ll rise, I’ll rise, Again [x4]
Alleluia [x3]
Amen [x6]

As you have probably figured out by the title of the song, you can find the written retelling of this story in the bible in Matthew 28! The part of this chapter that really stands out to me is the last few verses ( verses 18-20) where Jesus gives his disciples what is known as “The Great Commission”
.
18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,[b] baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

What an order he bestowed upon his disciples! He left with them the responsibility of sharing Him with everyone, teaching them about his commandments, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

I do believe that this Great Commission was not only for the disciples of yesteryear but for us today… right now! We have been commissioned by our Savior to win the lost at any cost!

Are we doing our part to uphold the Great Commission? Let’s take time this Resurrection Sunday to reflect and review. Even if we are sharing the gospel, there is still more we can do ! Let’s make sure that Christ is reflected in everything we do so that his trial, crucifixion, death and subsequent resurrection not be in vain!

Now, doing your active part in the Great Commission doesn’t mean you have to stand on a mountaintop and shout “Jesus is Lord” for all the nations to hear( not that anything is wrong with that!). You may be introverted ( or an introvert with extroverted tendencies like myself) and public speaking may not be your thing in big crowds ( although with faith you can conquer anything!)  But that doesn’t mean you can’t share the gospel of Jesus Christ effectively in your own way! Hey, I started a blog to share my faith! Find a way to fulfill your duties of the instructions Christ left us!

I hope and pray this Easter season fills you with a constant desire to share the Great Commission!

Forever: Kari Jobe

Hey guys,

I just wanted to jump on here real quick to share a song that has been on my heart for the past few weeks.  As a Christian, this weekend  I am observing Easter.  To me Easter is my absolute favorite holiday… yes even more than Christmas!  I just am totally enthralled with the fact that this man called Christ would sacrifice his life in such a brutal way.. for someone like me! Many will ( and have) argued with me saying that there wouldn’t be a savior to sacrifice if there wasn’t a Christmas. Which I agree with as well . But its just being privy to the fact he accepted the fate he was dealt, willing and humbly for someone like me.. It’s a humbling thought and I  am forever grateful!

Too often we see holidays that were created to observe and commemorate Christ have been overrun by commercialization. I pray that one day we will return these holidays to the sacredness they deserve. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the hustle and bustle and gift giving of Christmas and I am not opposed to dyeing Easter eggs and eating a Cadbury egg or two, but… if all those things were taken away, my heart would still give glory where glory is due!  Check out this song  ( and lyrics) Forever by Kari Jobe. She puts into song what Easter is truly about. Forever our God is alive!

Have a blessed day!
xoxo

The moon and stars they wept
The morning sun was dead
The Saviour of the world was fallen
His body on the cross
His blood poured out for us
The weight of every curse upon him

One final breath he gave
As heaven looked away
The son of God was laid in darkness
A battle in the grave
The war on death was waged
The power of hell forever broken

The ground began to shake
The stone was rolled away
His perfect love could not be overcome
Now death where is your sting?
Our resurrected King
Has rendered you defeated

Forever he is glorified
Forever he is lifted high
Forever he is risen
He is alive, He is alive!

The ground began to shake
The stone was rolled away
His perfect love could not be overcome
Now death where is your sting?
Our resurrected King
Has rendered you defeated

Forever he is glorified
Forever he is lifted high
Forever he is risen
He is alive, He is alive!

We sing hallelujah
We sing hallelujah
We sing hallelujah
The Lamb has overcome

We sing hallelujah
We sing hallelujah
We sing hallelujah
The Lamb has overcome

Forever he is glorified
Forever he is lifted high
Forever he is risen
He is alive, He is alive!

You have overcome
You have overcome
You have overcome
You have overcome
