Style Sunday: Fall Sunday Outfit…

Style Sunday: Fall Sunday Outfit…

Hey guys!

Sorry I’ve been M.I.A. ! I had the flu and then I  also had some technical difficulties… but I’m back!!!

This weekend the USA celebrated Thanksgiving ( happy belated Thanksgiving to my American readers) and after Thanksgiving comes the shopping frenzy that is Black Friday! Canada( where I live) in recent years have jumped on the Black Friday  marketing madness and have brought some of those knock out sales to our stores! So naturally I hopped on the chance to shop quality items at Sophie approved prices AKA sale!

So bright and early before work, I ran to my closest shopping centre to peruse the stores and see if I could find anything I needed/wanted and to get a few Christmas presents out of the way. I found magnificent deals at Old Navy, Aldo and H&M and of course my holy grail store ( say it with me long  time readers…) Forever  21!

The item I am featuring today is from Forever 21. I was in the store a few days prior and a camel coloured bodycon dress caught my eye; check it out here: This dress retails for $22.90 (Canadian) but because of Black Friday sales  I was able to purchase it for 21% off! (YAY ME!! )

I really liked It because it was super simple but to make it a little fancy, it had a really nice side slit.  I paired this dress with a chunky black necklace given to me as a gift and some three inch black booties purchased years ago at Payless shoes ( I’ve mentioned them a million times on here) To finish the look off I added chunky round ring purchased at the Slauson swap meet in LA a long time ago and a black and gold studded bracelet.

I beat my face with a little help from Sephora 😛 and away I went!

I hope you guys I have an amazingly fashionable week and remember…

Style Sunday: The Little Red Dress…

Style Sunday: The Little Red Dress…

Hey guys

Welcome to this edition of Style Sunday!  This one takes me way out of my comfort zone in so many ways. One, I’m wearing red. I don’t really gravitate towards red at all.
Two, Its a dress that sits above my knees. ( Yes I do wear clothes above the knee but because I go to a Caribbean Pentecostal church.. I tend to leave my hemline below the knees!)
Three, Its a baby-doll style dress which is a style of dress that I don’t find particularly flattering on my body type and its and off the shoulder style!

But something about it spoke to me when I saw it on the rack. I didn’t think It would be something to wear to church. Perhaps something for my upcoming travels? So anyway, I looked at the price tag and it was right up my alley ( some say cheap, I call it price conscious 😛 ) I picked it up, purchased it, and walked out the store. I did not try it on!

Anyway, when I finally got around to trying it on (a few days later) I instantly fell in love with it!

So here’s how I styled it!

Let’s start with the dress itself. I purchased it from H&M for $19.99 ( Canadian currency) What I love about this dress, is that you can dress it up or you can dress it down. You can purchase it here

I chose to dress it up with silver/ bling accessories and shoes .

My shoes I purchased from Call It Spring .They are in the style ” Evelaines”. Retail price $49.99 but they are currently on sale for less than half price!! Check them out here! These shoes are very comfortable. I wore them as a bridesmaid and my feet did not die, so they get two thumbs up in my book!

EVELAINES

I also added some silver accessories that were gifted to me by two different friends. A bib style silver and beaded necklace similar to this one:

Also a bracelet similar to this one:

Here’s how I pulled it all together!

Have a stylishly wonderful week !!

Monday Motivation: The Storm is Over Now…

Monday Motivation: The Storm is Over Now…

Hey guys!

Busy week ahead so this will be a quick post! I was listening to some Judy Garland, “Somewhere over the Rainbow” and this post completely overtook what I was going to chat with you about today! Funny how that works right?

I don’t know if there is anyone out there who can actual feel a storm  coming. I have bad knees so I can feel a tingly sensation in my knees when a storm is on the way. I also sometimes suffer with migraines and if you have ever had a migraine, you know that an incoming storm only exacerbates the pain you feel. But once that storm passes by….. wow what a relief!

Such as with the storms of life. Before a storm (aka a bump in the road of life) happens you can usually feel something brewing. Then, the onset of the storm approaches. Things get dark and winds blow and showers plummet down. Sometimes when a storm rages your plans get ruined!( anybody ever been at a cookout and get rained out?… Yeah not fun)  But then after the storm subsides, peace and calm are restored and usually a sign that everything is going to be alright pops up. ( hello rainbow!)

Ahhh… the rainbow. The best thing after a storm for me is to see a beautiful rainbow in the sky .  Biblically , the rainbow served as a covenant ( promise) God made with Noah which promised that the world would not be destroyed with water ever again. ( Genesis 9:8-17) If that isn’t an expression of grace then I don’t know what is!

For me the rainbow serves as a reminder of the promise that God made with Noah many moons ago. After Noah weathered his storm ( literally), blessings were abundant. I’ve weathered many storms in my life that God has seen me through.

Keep faith that there is a rainbow at the end of your storm! You may be in the tempest of your storm. Your storm might be causing mass destruction in your life and the lives of those around you. You might not be able to see the end of your storm, but just know that God is in the midst of your storm. You may not know how to get out the storm you are in, but let God be the captain of your ship!

Storms last only a for a moment. You may have to pick up the pieces after the storm… but look up for your rainbow is on the horizon!!

God did it for Jonah
God did it for Noah.
He’ll do it for you!

The song, “The Storm is Over Now” by Kirk Franklin is so fitting today! The lyrics and song are down below.

Have a blessed week!

It’s over now
it’s over now
i feel like i can make it
the storm is over nowIt’s over now
It’s over now
i feel like i can make it
the storm is over now

No more cloudly days
there all gone, gone away
i feel like i can make it
the storm is over now

no more cloudy days
there are gone away
i feel like i can make it
the storm is over now

If i walk alone
I’m not on my own
i feel like i can make it
the storm is over now

if i walk alone
i’m not on my own
i feel like i can make it
the storm is over now

Style Sunday: Skinny Jeans and a Bob Marley Tee…

Style Sunday: Skinny Jeans and a Bob Marley Tee…

Hey guys!

This weekend was a super busy! Just wanted to jump on here and share one of the outfits I wore!

I had a wedding rehearsal to go to this weekend, so I wanted to wear heels so I could get a feel for the aisle I had to walk down and see how my feet would hold up! I didn’t want to dress up though so I put together a casual outfit soph style! (My casual is still pretty glam lol)

I paired my favorite pair of light wash denim skinny jeans ( with a distressed knee) from Old Navy. This pair of jeans is from the “Curvy Skinny ” collection. This collection boasts that it is suitable for ” curvy shapes with a defined waist with stretch to hug your curves”  Y’ALL…… let me tell you about these jeans…… guys…. these jeans are LIFE! Absolutely my favorite pair of jeans to date. I always have to buy a size larger than I am to get a comfortable fit for my thick thighs and ahem… defined lower half! ( lol) But in these jeans, I can actually wear my real size!( and possibly a size lower!!) If you haven’t tried these jeans, you are missing out! Run! get you a pair!! : )

I added a tee from….. you guessed it… Forever 21 featuring the face of the legendary Bob Marley. Anything that is reminiscent of Jamaica ( I’m Jamaican 🙂 ) always catches my eye. I was in a minimalist kind of mood today so I was happy that this tee fit my vision. I enjoy the black and white streamlined  look of this t-shirt. Simple, yet effective.

It’s still pretty cold here where I live in Canada ( side-note: I honestly think global warming has shifted the timeline of our seasons , spring is now from May-July and summer runs from August-October… kinda sucks for our beautiful long “summer” days and nights…. anyway … I digress!
I had to pair this outfit with a blazer to keep me warm! A simple three quarter sleeve black  boyfriend blazer did the trick. I purchased this item a long time ago from a store called “Dynamite” . I found a similar one here

Finally, I threw on my trusty little black booties from Payless! Honestly, the most comfortable pair of booties I own. To finish up my look I added a solid, black floppy hat which complimented my loose beach wave curled hairstyle.

For my makeup, I went for a dark look. I kept my eye makeup minimal with liquid eye liner and mascara ( eye liner from Joe Fresh and today’s mascara was the tried trusted and true Maybelline Great Lash) and for my lips I paired MAC’s Nightmoth lip liner with a liquid lipstick from Stila called “Chianti” ( very similar to MAC’s “Smoked Purple”)

Have a wonderful and stylish week lovely people!

Style Sunday: I May Like Pink…

Style Sunday: I May Like Pink…

Hey guys!

Quick style post today. Anybody who really knows me, knows I am not a fan of the colour pink at all. However, recently I have been intrigued by pink in various items like lipsticks and blush and nail polish and phone cases and clothing…. HELP! I think I may actually the colour pink ( the horror! lol 😛 )

So while perusing the racks at Forever 21 ( I swear I should own stock in this store) I saw a lovely dusty pink T-shirt Dress. My mind instantly began racing with ideas of how I could style it. Unfortunately, this particular location didn’t have my size. A few days later, I tried another location and luckily they had it in stock!

So let me show how I styled it today!

Dusty Pink Dress from Forever 21:  This dress is plain and simple. A stretch knit dress made of a blend of rayon and spandex, this dress fits like a glove! With a straight hem line and three-quarter length sleeves, this dress is easy to dress up or dress down. You can purchase this item here.

Nude Heels: I chose a nude pair of heels for this outfit today . On another day, I could see myself pairing this with a deep plum pair of heels. I’ll post a pic of shoes similar to the ones I have down below.

Jewelry: The dress was extremely simple so I felt it was okay to go a little glam with the jewels. My friend gifted me with a beautiful six strand set of  pearls with the bracelets and pearl stud earrings to match. This added the right amount of glam to the outfit! Extreme, yet not overbearing.

For my makeup I kept it pretty simple. I used my Naked 3 Pallette shades “Mugshot” and “Liar” for my lid shadow along with some black eyeliner and mascara.  On my lips I wore MAC “Nightmoth”  lip liner with Kat Von D “Bauhau5” liquid lipstick!  My foundation was the “NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in the colour “Benares”

Dress:  $29.90
Heels: $ 20.00 ( i think)
Jewelry:  Gift price unknown 🙂  similar items retail for upwards of $150

Have an amazingly stylish Sunday!!!
