Holiday Glam…

Holiday Glam…

Hey guys!

Here is a makeup look I have been gravitating to this holiday season! ( please excuse my eyebrow… I didn’t realize I had smudged it LOL) ¬†P.S I am not a makeup artist, no desire to be one lol( I just like playing around with cool products ūüôā

*******

First, I prepped and primed my skin. I used the Hangover Rx Replenishing Primer all over my face with the exception of my t-zone. For my t– zone ( forehead, nose and chin) I used the Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector. I have combination skin that leans more to the oily side so the primer mixing helps to keep my oils controlled.

Hangover Rx Replenishing Primer: $45.00 ( 1.35 fl oz)
Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector: $28.00 ( mini size)

I followed up with the Too Faced Comfort Matte Foundation in the shade Cocoa. This is a medium coverage foundation which is what I prefer these days. Not too heavy on the skin and leaves the skin looking dewy.

Hangover Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation: Normally $48.00 but currently on the Sephora website for $38.50!

Next, I concealed some trouble spots with my Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer in the shade 470. This helped to cover up any blemishes the medium coverage foundation may have missed. This is my favourite concealer at the moment! So creamy, moveable and a little goes a long way.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer: $35.00

On my eyebrows, I used an Essence eyebrow pencil in the shade brown. Easy to use and to create a soft natural-looking brow. I found this at my local Shoppers Drug Mart.

Essence Eyebrow Pencil: $2.49

On my eyes, I used a combination of two palettes. The Naked Heat Palette by Urban Decay and the Morphe 15d Day Slayer Artistry Palette.¬†I honestly mixed and matched different colours. I don’t remember what I used but I wanted bold rosy colours to offset my red dress.

Naked Heat Palette by Urban Decay: $68.00
Morphe 15d Day Slayer Artistry Palette:  This was a  limited edition palette but I believe I got it for around $25.00

To line my eyes this day, I used the Sephora Collection Colorful Waterproof Eyeliner in the shade Black lace, which is a matte black liner.

Sephora Collection Colorful Waterproof Eyeliner: $16.00

For mascara, I just used the Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara in the shade Glam Black.

Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara: $6.00 at Walmart.

On my lips, I used the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade Lolita and Lined my lips with MAC’s Chestnut lip liner.¬†

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick: $26.50
MAC’s Chestnut lip liner: $22.00

Finally, to set my face I used the Too Faced Mattifying Setting Spray.¬† Love how this spray works with this foundation but nothing beats my tried and true MAC Fix+ ūüôā

Too Faced Mattifying Setting Spray.  $20.00 ( mini size)

Style Sunday: Black Lace and Ripped Denim…

Style Sunday: Black Lace and Ripped Denim…

Hey y’all!

Happy Sunday!

So yesterday, I had the opportunity to celebrate the birthday of one of my homegirls. We went out to eat at this really nice, hipster restaurant in the downtown core of my city. We had plans to go down by the water and get some ice cream and hang out after dinner, so I wanted an outfit that was chic yet functional!

Here’s what I wore: IMG_5931

Ripped Denim:
I purchased these jeans from Old Navy a few years back. They are from the Rockstar line. These are absolutely my favourite jeans because they are so comfortable. They are high-waisted which is perfect for us ladies with a smaller waistline but thicker thighs and posterior! (lol)

Lace Top:
This “top” was actually a dress! I purchased this from H&M years ago but never had the opportunity to wear it because the dress insert underneath¬†the lace was way too short for my comfort level. So I macgyvered a top out of it by simply cutting the dress out and placing a plain black spaghetti strap tank top underneath instead. ¬†I really liked the detail in the patterning of the lace which is why I didn’t want to get rid of it!

Shoes:
Honestly, I love high heels, but these low block heels are honestly my favourite shoes in all the earth (lol) I know I’m being dramatic but these little heels are the most comfortable shoes I have ever purchased. ¬†I purchased them from Rainbow for only $12.99! Best money I have ever spent! I wear these heels with everything.

My jewellery was the same old things! My nameplate necklace, my Gold chain with cross and baby ring on it, my Pandora bracelet and a pair of gold hoops! ( so basic I know lol)

It’s super hot where I live right now ( FINALLY) but that usually means I wear minimal makeup during the summer season.

Here’s what I wore on my face:¬†
Face: Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation+Concealer in the shade ” Truffle” Set my face with Ben Nye Powder in the shade ” Cocoa”
Lips: MAC Retro Matee Liquid Lipstick ¬†in the Shade “Oh Lady”
Eyes: Maybelline Lash Stiletto Liquid Eyeliner and Maybelline Colossal Mascara.

That’s all for today folks!

Remember…

3 Perfect Red Lipsticks To Wear This Holiday…

3 Perfect Red Lipsticks To Wear This Holiday…

Hey loves,

One thing I love to do is add a red lip to spice up my holiday outfits. Here are 3 lip products I have been reaching for consistently this holiday season!

Mary Jo K- Kylie Cosmetics

I absolutely love the formula of the Kylie Cosmetics matte liquid lipsticks. I find that while they are matte, they are not extremely drying as you find with most liquid lip products. The colour pay off is amazing. You can wear this all day without fear of it smudging or smearing. This lipstick is described as a true blue red product which makes it very wearable for lippie lovers of varying complexions.  This retails for $17.00 USD which is mid range price point for this type of product.

Sessy- Colourpop

This product falls under the category of “products Youtube made me buy” (lol). I follow a youtuber named Ellarie and she did a makeup collaboration with Colourpop Cosmetics. I have literally been wearing her two liquid lip shades since they debuted and this beautiful reddish wine ¬†shade has definitely been one of my favourites. ¬†This product in particular falls under the Colourpop category of ultra matte liquid lipstick, which is their boldest and longest lasting formula. I can definitely attest to this product being long lasting. You may need a little coconut oil to break it down when removing. This product retails for $6.50 (USD) and at that price you may as well treat yourself to one this holiday season!

Ellarie x ColourPop - Sessy deep red wine Ultra Matte liquid lipstick

Beso РStila Cosmetics

My ultimate favourite red lip product of all time. Yes, It has taken the spot of the long withstanding Ruby Woo by MAC Cosmetics. I feel that this red is the red that suits my deep complexion the best.  A  little goes a long way with this product. One swipe is pretty much all you need to fill your lips.  While this product is a little bit on the pricey side at $22.00 USD, It is well worth the money.  Although I have tons of red lip products, this is the one I find myself reaching for the most. I have seen it look stunning on people with darker completions like myself as well as my more fair complected consumers. I would certainly recommend you give this lipstick a try, One flaw is that it can be a little on the dating side, so be sure to have hydrated lips before you apply or your cracks will show!

Beauty Blog: My Fave Fall Lippies

Beauty Blog: My Fave Fall Lippies

Hey guys!

I just wanted to share with some of the lip products I reach for the most during the fall season! I tend to go for darker, more vampy shades, with a few neutrals in there! Here some of the ones I think work well with all skin tones, but especially for my melanin rich sisters!  Enjoy!

Color Pop (Liquid Lipstick) – LAX: LAX is described as a warm reddish brown shade. This shade has a matte finish, I like to pair it with Chestnut lip liner from MAC. This product retails for $6.00 USD ( approximately $8.00 Canadian)

Color Pop ( Liquid Lipstick)-Avenue: ¬†Avenue is a warm red matte shade. It’s a bold yet wearable everyday red!¬† This lip product is a long wear product. This lipstick retails for $6.00 USD ( approximately $8.00 Canadian)

Stila (Liquid Lipstick) – Chianti: ¬†This is a deep blackened plum shade. This is a shade I reach for when I’m heading out for maybe a night on the town with the ladies. Something a little out of my comfort zone, but still beautiful shade nonetheless. This product retails for $24.00 USD ( approximately $31.00 dollars Canadian)

MAC ( Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick)- Oh Lady: This is a deep berry shade. To me, it’s ¬†like the fall version of ¬†“Flat out Fabulous”. I like to wear this on days I need a little more splash of colour. This product retails for $20.00 USD ( approximately $25.00 Canadian)

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick- Crucifix:  This is a warm brown shade. Pretty similar to shade of my skin. This is a brown I reach for regularly.  It can be a little streaky when applying, so I like to pair it with Chestnut  lip liner from MAC. This product retails for $20.00 USD ( approximately  24 dollars Canadian)

These final three are probably the ones I reach for the most!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick- Sanctuary: This is a cool mauve shade. It may be my favourite fall nude shade to wear! Definitely in my top 5 nudes of all time . Long lasting and non streaky! This product retails for $20.00 USD( approximately  24 dollars Canadian)

Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Lip Luminizer : This is a universal lip gloss shade. On me, it presents as a soft coral shade. Beautiful shade to wear on its own, but lately I have been pairing it with another favourite of mine;  This product retails for $18.00 USD ( approximately $23.00 Canadian)

Are They Worth The Hype: MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours

Hey lovely people!

I am back again with another edition of , ” Are They Worth The Hype?”. This edition features the MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours.

Not too long ago MAC re released their collection, adding some new shades. The first release that they came out with, I was not impressed… at all! I found the formula ( especially in the darker shades ) were extremely streaky and not long lasting at all.

I had a gift card to MAC, and was in the market from some new products, so I decided to give these liquid lipcolours a try once again.

I love liquid lipsticks. There are three things I look for when purchasing a liquid lip product:

1:  Are they long lasting?
2:  How do they feel on the lips? Are they super drying?
3: How do they apply ?
4: Packaging?

1: These liquid lipcolours are SUPER long lasting! I wore this product for about 8 hours ( a full work day) and ¬†I didn’t have to reapply once! I even had a sub sandwich for lunch and drank a soda without a straw and make lipstick was still intact. ¬†Towards the end of the day, I did start to see a little feathering around the sides, and a little bit missing from the middle. But it wasn’t super obvious.

2. The first time I tried these products, they were super uncomfortable for me . Extremely drying and streaky and crumbly. But this new formula is completely different.  They were very comfortable on the lips  throughout the entire time of wearing it. The fact that they are more of a matte suede finish, I think helps them not to dry out my lips.

3.The liquid lip colour has a doe foot applicator which makes for a smooth and easy application. The applicator holds a lot of product so I would suggest that you wipe off some of the product before you apply.

4: Let’s talk about the packaging. I’m not impressed at all. We all know that MAC lipsticks have that classic packing: ¬†matte black tube with the silver line in the middle and the silver branding. ¬†The liquid lip colour packaging ¬†basically kept the black matte top and a clear plastic tube . ¬†I guess they wanted to keep their products packaging consistent but to me it kinda fell short!

I purchased the shade “Oh Lady” ¬†and I absolutely love it! I will definitely think about investing in a few other shades.

These products retail for $21.00 ( Canadian)  and you get  5 ml of product in each tube.

Would I repurchase this product? Absolutely! Are they worth the hype? Yup!!

I love liquid lipsticks! What are some of your favourite brands?

Minimal Makeup For A Quick Trip…

Minimal Makeup For A Quick Trip…

Hey guys!

As I write this post, I am procrastinating packing my suitcase for my quick little vacay that I leave for… wait for it… Friday. I haven’t even looked at ( or for) suitcase yet…. sigh I do this every time (lol)

Yikes! I have decided since this is a quick trip, I’m not checking a bag. I’m strictly bringing a carry on! I’m doing my very best to pack lightly, and that includes my beauty/makeup products.

If you’ve ever travelled with me, you know I usually pack my ENTIRE makeup collection because I just don’t know what look I want to go for. Well, this time, I’m putting my foot down on myself (lol) and packing the minimal essentials to get my face together for a simple day brunch or a night on the town.

Here are the tips I have for packing lightly on in the makeup department

  • Pack Palettes if you can: If you have a palette that has a combination of products combined. For example a blush and highlight palette ¬†or an eyeshadow palette instead of a bunch of single shadows.
  • Bring a medium/full coverage foundation that can possibly also double as a concealer.
  • Bring one universal lip liner and limit the number of lip products you bring ( this is visually impossible for me!) ¬†Bring one red/ bold lip colour, a nude lip colour and a sheer gloss.
  • Bring travel sized items like, cleansing balm ( as opposed to liquid makeup remover) setting powder, setting spray etc..
  • Bring multi purpose brushes instead of 25,000 different brushes. Take stock of our actual daily makeup routine and bring the brushes you need.
  • Have an idea of the makeup look you are going for ahead of time so that you don’t over pack items you most definitely won’t use.

This is what I will be bringing with me on my trip:

For my eyes:
Tartelette in Bloom Palette
Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner in “Onyx”
Better Than Sex Mascara

On my face:
Clinique 2 in 1 Foundation and Concealer in the shade “Clove”
L.A. Girl Concealer
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
Kylie Cosmetics Kylighter in Chocolate Cherry

On my lips:
Red: Beso by Stila
Bold: Bauhau5 by Kat Von D
Nude/Gloss: Spite by MAC Cosmetics
MAC Chestnut lip liner
Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer

That’s 12 makeup products that I can do countless looks with! 12 may seem like a lot but its really not!

Let’s hope I can actually stick to this! Wish me luck folks! Until next time…

xoxo

Beauty Blog: Kat Von D Everlasting Nude Collection…

Beauty Blog: Kat Von D Everlasting Nude Collection…

Hey there my fellow lipstick junkies!

I’m back again with another beauty blog.¬†If any of you have been following me on here for awhile , you should know that I am a lover of all things lipstick, especially matte liquid lipsticks. Kat Von D has added 6 new nude shades to her Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Collection. The shades include:

  • Muneca:¬†Vibrant pinkish-apricot
  • Ophelia:¬†¬†Peach nude
  • Ludwig:¬†Tawny rose
  • Sanctuary¬†:¬†Cool sepia
  • Hawkwind:¬†Warm nutmeg
  • Crucifix:¬†Hickory brown
    ( http://www.temptalia.com/kat-von-d-everlasting-nudes-collection-for-spring-2017/)

spring-2017_kat-von-d-everlasting-liquid-nudes_001_promo

While they are all beautiful shades, I drew an affinity to three shades in particular: Sanctuary, Hawkwind and Crucifix. I was only able to get my hands on Sanctuary and Crucifix. Here is my honest opinion on both shades.

Crucifix: ¬†Crucifix is the perfect chocolate brown matte lipstick I had ben looking for the winter season. When lined with MAC Cosmetics ¬†“Chestnut” lip liner, this lipstick is the perfect earth toned nude for me who is of a darker complexion! One thing I find fault with with Crucifix, is that it is SUPER drying. Like most liquid lipsticks ( as well as the other liquid lipsticks from the Kat Von D brand that I own) your lips should be exfoliated and moisturized before you apply. But even after I did that, I still found that Crucifix was extremely flaky after a short period of time. Nevertheless, its a beautiful colour.

crucifix

Sanctuary: Sanctuary is described as a cool sepia toned nude. It reminds me somewhat of “Lolita” another nude from the Kat Von D line. Sanctuary leans more towards a nude with a purple undertone( on me anyway) . I love this shade! I think that this shade is probably going to be my go to colour for the remainder of the season! It’s that perfect nude with a just enough wash of colour. I think that Sanctuary would be complimentary on all skin tones. This shade is really long lasting. I wore it through an entire day. I ate, I drank and took a nap and …. my lips stayed perfectly intact. ūüôā

screen-shot-2017-01-04-at-10-20-47-amThese lipsticks retail for $24.00 Canadian online and in stores.  Im looking forward to the spring that will see this line release another batch of lipsticks, this time from the more vibrant family of colours!

If you are in the market for a diverse selection of nudes to satisfy your nude lippie needs, run on over to your local Sephora or Sephora.com and check these ones out! You won’t be disappointed !

Style Sunday: I May Like Pink…

Style Sunday: I May Like Pink…

Hey guys!

Quick style post today. Anybody who really knows me, knows I am not a fan of the colour pink at all. However, recently I have been intrigued by pink in various items like lipsticks and blush and nail polish and phone cases and clothing…. HELP! I think I may actually the colour pink ( the horror! lol ūüėõ )

So while perusing the racks at Forever 21 ( I swear I should own stock in this store) I saw a lovely dusty pink T-shirt Dress. My mind instantly began racing with ideas of how I could style it. Unfortunately, this particular location didn’t have my size. A few days later, I tried another location and luckily they had it in stock!

So let me show how I styled it today!

Dusty Pink Dress from Forever 21:  This dress is plain and simple. A stretch knit dress made of a blend of rayon and spandex, this dress fits like a glove! With a straight hem line and three-quarter length sleeves, this dress is easy to dress up or dress down. You can purchase this item here.

Nude Heels: I chose a nude pair of heels for this outfit today . On another day, I could see myself pairing this with a deep plum pair of heels. I’ll post a pic of shoes similar to the ones I have down below.

Jewelry: The dress was extremely simple so I felt it was okay to go a little glam with the jewels. My friend gifted me with a beautiful six strand set of  pearls with the bracelets and pearl stud earrings to match. This added the right amount of glam to the outfit! Extreme, yet not overbearing.

IMG_0134

For my makeup I kept it pretty simple. I used my Naked 3 Pallette shades “Mugshot” and “Liar” for my lid shadow along with some black eyeliner and mascara. ¬†On my lips I wore MAC “Nightmoth” ¬†lip liner with Kat Von D “Bauhau5” liquid lipstick! ¬†My foundation was the “NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in the colour “Benares”

Dress:  $29.90
Heels: $ 20.00 ( i think)
Jewelry: ¬†Gift price unknown ūüôā ¬†similar items retail for upwards of $150

Have an amazingly stylish Sunday!!!

Beauty Blog: Lush Lip Products…

Beauty Blog: Lush Lip Products…

Hey y’all,

I’m back again with another beauty blog. I recently have become obsessed with the company LUSH! Their bath bombs are everything! I received a couple from my friend Jess for my birthday and that totally sparked my interest in what other products they have. So while post Boxing Day “browsing” at the Rideau Centre mall in Ottawa Ontario, I wandered into their LUSH location.

What is Lush? Lush is a cosmetics retailer headquartered in Poole, Dorset, United Kingdom, founded by Mark Constantine, a trichologist and Liz Weir, a beauty therapist. They met in a hair and beauty salon in Poole, England.( wikipedia)  They have locations all over Canada and the United States as well as other places.  Some really cool things about the LUSH company is that their products are 100 percent vegetarian, with many of their products being vegan! They are against animal cruelty and testing and their products are handmade!

Now, with the winter months now upon us here in Ontario, Canada where I live, chapped lips have become the bane of my existence!! Now anyone who knows me knows I love to wear lipstick but the worst thing that you can have before applying lipstick, are super chapped lips!

Now, I have a homemade recipe that I found on Pinterest that really works ( i’ll include the link to ¬†that recipe here)¬† but sometimes I don’t want to take the 3.5 seconds it takes to make one(lol) and I just want the quick and easy way out. Plus I’m a product junkie so I’m always in the market to try new things!

So I picked up two items from LUSH to rescue my lips this winter. The first thing I picked up was a lip scrup called “Mint Julips”. According to LUSH.com this product is described as follows:

Mint-chocolate pout polish

Just like the scrumptious cocktail served in hot southern summers, Mint Julips is packed full of fresh peppermint and sweet castor sugar. Peppermint is responsible for that ‚Äėtingly feeling‚Äô you get after brushing your teeth or using lip balm, so we thought it would make a perfect addition to our lip scrub! Plus, it makes Mint Julips tastes like a big, creamy bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream.

The ingredients are:

Castor Sugar , Cold Pressed Organic Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia Chinensis) , Vanilla Extract (Vanilla planifolia) , Tagetes Oil (Tagetes minuta) , Peppermint Oil (Mentha piperita) , *Limonene , Flavor . *Occurs naturally in essential oils

The sales representative gave me a sample of this and I was sold. Like any other exfoliating lip product, a little goes a long way. So I simply took a little on my pinkie finger and gently scrubbed away. What’s great about this product is that you can “eat” ( or lick off) the excess because it tastes great! ¬†Now let me tell you before I used this product my lips were DRYYYYYYYY! Those Ottawa frigid temperatures really did a number on my lips and my EOS¬† lip¬†balm just wasn’t cutting it anymore. My lips felt so brand new after! Even my best friend tried it ¬†and purchased one for herself. I believe she got a different flavour though ( It also comes in Bubblegum and Popcorn) This product retails for only $9.95! For¬†for amount of product you get and how little you have to use each time, it is well worth the price! Would I suggest it to anyone? Absolutely? Would I repurchase? Again and Again ūüôā

Mint Julips

The next product I got was a Lip Balm called “Honey Trap”. It is described on LUSH.com ¬†as follows:

Our product inventors worked hard in the labs, experimenting with all sorts of different flavors before they landed on this seductive honey lip balm. Recently, they revisited the formula, mixing it by hand on lower temperatures to make it softer and more flavorful. Honey Trap is filled with toning sweet orange and cooling peppermint to soothe dry, chapped lips. Rich honey moisturizes and melted white chocolate is part of that delectable flavor

The ingredients are as follows:

Fair Trade Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii) , Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis) , Beeswax (Cera alba) , Honey ,Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Olea europaea) , White Chocolate (Sucrose, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Dry Whole Milk, Lecithin, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract) ,Glycerine , Flavor , Organic Cold Pressed Wheatgerm Oil (Triticum Vulgare) , Oatmeal (Avena Sativa) , Peppermint Oil (Mentha piperita) , Vanilla Absolute (Vanilla planifolia) ,Sweet Wild Orange Oil (Citrus sinensis) , *Limonene .*Occurs naturally in essential oils

I really liked this product, however, ¬†I had a few cons . Although it is super moisturizing, its not a long lasting moisture I’m finding with this product I have to reapply repeatedly. ¬†I’ve found that if I apply it at night, it helps keep my lips soft overnight and looking fresh in the morning. I also am not a huge fan of the packaging . I think I would like it better if this product was in a tube. This retails for $7.95 which is a little more than I usually spend on lip balm ( Can I get a $2:00 tube of Carmex please!!) ¬†Would I suggest it to peer to buy? Sure! Would I repurchase? Probably not!

Honey Trap

Do you guys have any suggestions for moisturizing lip products for a bitterly cold winter season? Let me know!

xoxo
