Here is a makeup look I have been gravitating to this holiday season! ( please excuse my eyebrow… I didn’t realize I had smudged it LOL) P.S I am not a makeup artist, no desire to be one lol( I just like playing around with cool products 🙂
First, I prepped and primed my skin. I used the Hangover Rx Replenishing Primer all over my face with the exception of my t-zone. For my t– zone ( forehead, nose and chin) I used the Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector. I have combination skin that leans more to the oily side so the primer mixing helps to keep my oils controlled.
I followed up with the Too Faced Comfort Matte Foundation in the shade Cocoa. This is a medium coverage foundation which is what I prefer these days. Not too heavy on the skin and leaves the skin looking dewy.
Hangover Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation:Normally $48.00 but currently on the Sephora website for $38.50!
Next, I concealed some trouble spots with my Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer in the shade 470. This helped to cover up any blemishes the medium coverage foundation may have missed. This is my favourite concealer at the moment! So creamy, moveable and a little goes a long way.
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer: $35.00
On my eyebrows, I used an Essence eyebrow pencil in the shade brown. Easy to use and to create a soft natural-looking brow. I found this at my local Shoppers Drug Mart.
Essence Eyebrow Pencil: $2.49
On my eyes, I used a combination of two palettes. The Naked Heat Palette by Urban Decay and the Morphe 15d Day Slayer Artistry Palette. I honestly mixed and matched different colours. I don’t remember what I used but I wanted bold rosy colours to offset my red dress.
Naked Heat Palette by Urban Decay: $68.00 Morphe 15d Day Slayer Artistry Palette: This was a limited edition palette but I believe I got it for around $25.00
To line my eyes this day, I used the Sephora Collection Colorful Waterproof Eyeliner in the shade Black lace, which is a matte black liner.
Quick post today! As today is the first day of winter I thought I would share a basic winter makeup look I have been gravitating towards as of late. If you have 5-7 minutes in the morning you can do this look too in 7 simple steps!
Foundation: Too Faced Born This Way Foundation in the shade “Cocoa”
Concealer: Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in the shade “Truffle”
Eyeliner: Fenty Beauty “Flyliner” ( black liquid eyeliner )
Mascara: Maybelline Great Lash Mascara in the shade “Very Black ”
Powder: Ben Nye Transluscent Face Powder in the shade “Chestnut”
Shadow: A mix of some shades in the Tarlette in Bloom shadow palette
Lips: Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade ” Sanctuary”
( Excuse the eyebrows lol I forgot to fill them in this day ! Normally I would use a simple Elf Cosmetics pencil liner to fill them in )
One thing I love to do is add a red lip to spice up my holiday outfits. Here are 3 lip products I have been reaching for consistently this holiday season!
Mary Jo K- Kylie Cosmetics
I absolutely love the formula of the Kylie Cosmetics matte liquid lipsticks. I find that while they are matte, they are not extremely drying as you find with most liquid lip products. The colour pay off is amazing. You can wear this all day without fear of it smudging or smearing. This lipstick is described as a true blue red product which makes it very wearable for lippie lovers of varying complexions. This retails for $17.00 USD which is mid range price point for this type of product.
This product falls under the category of “products Youtube made me buy” (lol). I follow a youtuber named Ellarie and she did a makeup collaboration with Colourpop Cosmetics. I have literally been wearing her two liquid lip shades since they debuted and this beautiful reddish wine shade has definitely been one of my favourites. This product in particular falls under the Colourpop category of ultra matte liquid lipstick, which is their boldest and longest lasting formula. I can definitely attest to this product being long lasting. You may need a little coconut oil to break it down when removing. This product retails for $6.50 (USD) and at that price you may as well treat yourself to one this holiday season!
Beso – Stila Cosmetics
My ultimate favourite red lip product of all time. Yes, It has taken the spot of the long withstanding Ruby Woo by MAC Cosmetics. I feel that this red is the red that suits my deep complexion the best. A little goes a long way with this product. One swipe is pretty much all you need to fill your lips. While this product is a little bit on the pricey side at $22.00 USD, It is well worth the money. Although I have tons of red lip products, this is the one I find myself reaching for the most. I have seen it look stunning on people with darker completions like myself as well as my more fair complected consumers. I would certainly recommend you give this lipstick a try, One flaw is that it can be a little on the dating side, so be sure to have hydrated lips before you apply or your cracks will show!
What reds do you guys grab for in the holiday season? Let me know!
I just wanted to share with some of the lip products I reach for the most during the fall season! I tend to go for darker, more vampy shades, with a few neutrals in there! Here some of the ones I think work well with all skin tones, but especially for my melanin rich sisters! Enjoy!
Color Pop (Liquid Lipstick) – LAX: LAX is described as a warm reddish brown shade. This shade has a matte finish, I like to pair it with Chestnut lip liner from MAC. This product retails for $6.00 USD ( approximately $8.00 Canadian)
Color Pop ( Liquid Lipstick)-Avenue: Avenue is a warm red matte shade. It’s a bold yet wearable everyday red! This lip product is a long wear product. This lipstick retails for $6.00 USD ( approximately $8.00 Canadian)
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick – Exorcism :This shade is a warm plum/blackberry shade. I feel like I reach for this shade quite often. I love how easily it pairs with either a neutral eye or a more glam look! This product retails for $20.00 USD (approximately 24 dollars Canadian)
Stila (Liquid Lipstick) – Chianti: This is a deep blackened plum shade. This is a shade I reach for when I’m heading out for maybe a night on the town with the ladies. Something a little out of my comfort zone, but still beautiful shade nonetheless. This product retails for $24.00 USD ( approximately $31.00 dollars Canadian)
MAC ( Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick)- Oh Lady: This is a deep berry shade. To me, it’s like the fall version of “Flat out Fabulous”. I like to wear this on days I need a little more splash of colour. This product retails for $20.00 USD ( approximately $25.00 Canadian)
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick- Crucifix: This is a warm brown shade. Pretty similar to shade of my skin. This is a brown I reach for regularly. It can be a little streaky when applying, so I like to pair it with Chestnut lip liner from MAC. This product retails for $20.00 USD ( approximately 24 dollars Canadian)
These final three are probably the ones I reach for the most!
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick- Sanctuary:This is a cool mauve shade. It may be my favourite fall nude shade to wear! Definitely in my top 5 nudes of all time . Long lasting and non streaky! This product retails for $20.00 USD( approximately 24 dollars Canadian)
Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Lip Luminizer : This is a universal lip gloss shade. On me, it presents as a soft coral shade. Beautiful shade to wear on its own, but lately I have been pairing it with another favourite of mine; This product retails for $18.00 USD ( approximately $23.00 Canadian)
MAC’s Bittersweet Me.Now this on its own is my all time favourite lip gloss( well its tied with MAC’s Spite lol) I tried the two of them together and it was lip gloss magic!
I am back again with another edition of , ” Are They Worth The Hype?”. This edition features the MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours.
Not too long ago MAC re released their collection, adding some new shades. The first release that they came out with, I was not impressed… at all! I found the formula ( especially in the darker shades ) were extremely streaky and not long lasting at all.
I had a gift card to MAC, and was in the market from some new products, so I decided to give these liquid lipcolours a try once again.
I love liquid lipsticks. There are three things I look for when purchasing a liquid lip product:
1: Are they long lasting?
2: How do they feel on the lips? Are they super drying?
3: How do they apply ?
1: These liquid lipcolours are SUPER long lasting! I wore this product for about 8 hours ( a full work day) and I didn’t have to reapply once! I even had a sub sandwich for lunch and drank a soda without a straw and make lipstick was still intact. Towards the end of the day, I did start to see a little feathering around the sides, and a little bit missing from the middle. But it wasn’t super obvious.
2. The first time I tried these products, they were super uncomfortable for me . Extremely drying and streaky and crumbly. But this new formula is completely different. They were very comfortable on the lips throughout the entire time of wearing it. The fact that they are more of a matte suede finish, I think helps them not to dry out my lips.
3.The liquid lip colour has a doe foot applicator which makes for a smooth and easy application. The applicator holds a lot of product so I would suggest that you wipe off some of the product before you apply.
4: Let’s talk about the packaging. I’m not impressed at all. We all know that MAC lipsticks have that classic packing: matte black tube with the silver line in the middle and the silver branding. The liquid lip colour packaging basically kept the black matte top and a clear plastic tube . I guess they wanted to keep their products packaging consistent but to me it kinda fell short!
I purchased the shade “Oh Lady” and I absolutely love it! I will definitely think about investing in a few other shades.
These products retail for $21.00 ( Canadian) and you get 5 ml of product in each tube.
Would I repurchase this product? Absolutely! Are they worth the hype? Yup!!
I love liquid lipsticks! What are some of your favourite brands?
As I write this post, I am procrastinating packing my suitcase for my quick little vacay that I leave for… wait for it… Friday. I haven’t even looked at ( or for) suitcase yet…. sigh I do this every time (lol)
Yikes! I have decided since this is a quick trip, I’m not checking a bag. I’m strictly bringing a carry on! I’m doing my very best to pack lightly, and that includes my beauty/makeup products.
If you’ve ever travelled with me, you know I usually pack my ENTIRE makeup collection because I just don’t know what look I want to go for. Well, this time, I’m putting my foot down on myself (lol) and packing the minimal essentials to get my face together for a simple day brunch or a night on the town.
Here are the tips I have for packing lightly on in the makeup department
Pack Palettes if you can: If you have a palette that has a combination of products combined. For example a blush and highlight palette or an eyeshadow palette instead of a bunch of single shadows.
Bring a medium/full coverage foundation that can possibly also double as a concealer.
Bring one universal lip liner and limit the number of lip products you bring ( this is visually impossible for me!) Bring one red/ bold lip colour, a nude lip colour and a sheer gloss.
Bring travel sized items like, cleansing balm ( as opposed to liquid makeup remover) setting powder, setting spray etc..
Bring multi purpose brushes instead of 25,000 different brushes. Take stock of our actual daily makeup routine and bring the brushes you need.
Have an idea of the makeup look you are going for ahead of time so that you don’t over pack items you most definitely won’t use.
This is what I will be bringing with me on my trip:
For my eyes:
Tartelette in Bloom Palette
Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner in “Onyx”
Better Than Sex Mascara
On my face:
Clinique 2 in 1 Foundation and Concealer in the shade “Clove”
L.A. Girl Concealer
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
Kylie Cosmetics Kylighter in Chocolate Cherry
On my lips:
Red: Beso by Stila
Bold: Bauhau5 by Kat Von D
Nude/Gloss: Spite by MAC Cosmetics
MAC Chestnut lip liner
Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer
That’s 12 makeup products that I can do countless looks with! 12 may seem like a lot but its really not!
Let’s hope I can actually stick to this! Wish me luck folks! Until next time…
I’m back again with another beauty blog. If any of you have been following me on here for awhile , you should know that I am a lover of all things lipstick, especially matte liquid lipsticks. Kat Von D has added 6 new nude shades to her Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Collection. The shades include:
Ophelia: Peach nude
Sanctuary : Cool sepia
Hawkwind: Warm nutmeg
Crucifix: Hickory brown
While they are all beautiful shades, I drew an affinity to three shades in particular: Sanctuary, Hawkwind and Crucifix. I was only able to get my hands on Sanctuary and Crucifix. Here is my honest opinion on both shades.
Crucifix: Crucifix is the perfect chocolate brown matte lipstick I had ben looking for the winter season. When lined with MAC Cosmetics “Chestnut” lip liner, this lipstick is the perfect earth toned nude for me who is of a darker complexion! One thing I find fault with with Crucifix, is that it is SUPER drying. Like most liquid lipsticks ( as well as the other liquid lipsticks from the Kat Von D brand that I own) your lips should be exfoliated and moisturized before you apply. But even after I did that, I still found that Crucifix was extremely flaky after a short period of time. Nevertheless, its a beautiful colour.
Sanctuary: Sanctuary is described as a cool sepia toned nude. It reminds me somewhat of “Lolita” another nude from the Kat Von D line. Sanctuary leans more towards a nude with a purple undertone( on me anyway) . I love this shade! I think that this shade is probably going to be my go to colour for the remainder of the season! It’s that perfect nude with a just enough wash of colour. I think that Sanctuary would be complimentary on all skin tones. This shade is really long lasting. I wore it through an entire day. I ate, I drank and took a nap and …. my lips stayed perfectly intact. 🙂
These lipsticks retail for $24.00 Canadian online and in stores. Im looking forward to the spring that will see this line release another batch of lipsticks, this time from the more vibrant family of colours!
If you are in the market for a diverse selection of nudes to satisfy your nude lippie needs, run on over to your local Sephora or Sephora.com and check these ones out! You won’t be disappointed !
Alas, the beautiful fall season is upon us and although I will wear any shade of lipstick in any season, there are a few shades that I particularly gravitate towards when the weather gets a little cooler! I’m going to share with you some of my faves!
You can never go wrong in any season with a nude lip. There are two very similar shades that I like to wear particularly in the fall
Lolita- (Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick): A nude matte lipstick with pinkish-purple undertones. I pair it with Mac’s Chestnut lipliner. This product is extremely long lasting which is why I love it so much! One application can literally last you hours!
Whirl-( MAC)A matte finish dirty rose shade. I love it for the days when I just need a quick wash of colour on my lips, not necessarily all day wear. I also pair it with Mac’s Chestnut lipliner.
The next shade I want to talk about is also from MAC. It’s not new to the Collection, but its new to my Mac collection 🙂 . It’s a shade called Antique Velvet. This is described as a intense brown, and that it is! I had been searching for a shade like this for such a long time! Paired with a brown lipliner, this is a perfect fall shade that transitions well from day wear to evening play!
Next up, I’ll return to the Kat Von D line. The shade Vampirais literally one of my favourite lipstick products of all time! There was a point in time where this was sold out in every Sephora and online! When I finally got my hands on it I was not disappointed! This is a deep burgundy colour with red and brown undertones! I really love this for the evening! Paired with a smoky eye, its amazing! Run out and get your hands on it as soon as you can!!!
A very similar shade to Vampira is the shade, LAX from Colourpop. GUYS…. this is new to me. I had many great things about this shade and had seen it used in many a YouTube makeup tutorial. I finally gave in and ordered it and honestly its on trend to be one of my favourite lipsticks of all time! A warm reddish brown that is perfect for a night on the town. I have even worn this in the day with a simple black liner and a light coat of mascara! Amazing!
Finally, the fall wouldn’t be complete without a few dark vampy purple shades.
Chianti from the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick line– A deep plum shade perfect for a night on the town. If you are looking for a shade that will compliment a super dramatic look, try this one out! I also love MAC’s Smoked Purplewhich essentially a dupe for Chianti. I pair both with MAC’s Nightmoth lipliner for optimal precision!
Stila’s Chianti on my lips…
MAC’s Smoked Purple…
Finally, I’ll leave you with a perfect reddish plum shade for everyday wear. It’s the shade I usually reach for when I’m heading to work. Simple and understated, yet still noticeable. This shade also comes from the Kat Von D line and it’s called Exorcism ( creepy name but beautiful shade!)
So that’s what I’m wearing this fall! What are you wearing? Anything not on here that must try? Let me know!
Till next time,
P.S you can never go wrong in any season with a classic red lip. I am particularly loving Beso by Stilaright now! 🙂
It’s been quite some time since my last beauty blog! I thought in honor of my favorite makeup product ( lipstick) I thought would share with you a few of the pink lipsticks I love. I did the same thing a few months back with my fav nude, purple and red lips, so I thought I would just round out the series with the pinks!
Now anyone who really knows me, knows I do not like the colour pink. I’m not the conventional “girly girl”. I never wore( or wear lol) pink so naturally I stayed away from pink lipsticks . But…. alas the winds of change have led me to despise the colour pink less and less and I have begun to embrace pink… slowly…. a nail polish here, a pink sweater there… and of course a pink lipstick.
The first pink lipstick I purchased was the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in the shade 220 (Showy). I bought this because It was a dupe for the infamous MAC shade “Candy Yum Yum”. That lipstick came out when I was just getting into lipstick and I just couldn’t fathom ( at the time) spending 20 dollars on a lipstick.. and a pink one at that!(lol) I was able to jump on the good old internet and track down a dupe which is the lipstick I purchased. Here are the pros and cons of this product:
Very inexpensive ( 6-8 dollars Canadian)
Lots of product in the tube
A little goes a long way
It has a very “chalky texture
The colour stains your lips but the actual product does not last long . You constantly have to reapply.
Must be worn with a liner if you are of a darker complexion. Believe me I’ve tried it without and I looked a little crazy!
I like this lipstick well enough but I probably wouldn’t repurchase it!
Next up: Kat Von D Everlasting Lipstick in the shade Bauhau5. A raspberry pink shade that has matte finish.
Lots of product
A little on the more expensive side( 24 dollars Canadian currency)
Can be drying on the lips
I absolutely love this product I wear it any chance I get! So flattering especially on women of color! ( my opinion)
Girl About Town: The lipstick that made me actually fall in love with a pink lip! This lipstick is a Amplified Creme lipstick. A beautiful fuchsia pink lippie with a blue undertone. This is a definite repurchase!
Wearable during the day and the night
Price: about 20 dollars Canadian
Flat Out Fabulous: My all time favorite pink lipstick of all time! I wear this lipstick all time! I reach for this lipstick so often that I always have one in my makeup case as a back up! This is part of MAC’s Retro Matte Collection.
Can really modify to suit your needs with a plethora of different liners ( ie: Chestnut, Vino or Nightmoth from the MAC brand)
Flattering on all skin tones ( my opinion)
Easy to apply. One coat gives complete coverage.
Price ( 20 dollars Canadian)
Has a tendency to smear/fade over the course of the day
I have one more pink that I have yet to explore. Mac Captive. Let me try it out and I’ll keep you updated!
What pink lipsticks do you guys use? Which ones should I try? Let me know!
**Disclaimer: I am not sponsored by this company. All products mentioned were purchased by me. This review is solely my opinion.**
I’m back again with another beauty review! By now you all know I’m a lipstick junkie. ( see my blog post: Confessions of a Lipstick Junkie)
I used to stick to my Mac lipsticks and a few drugstore brands. Then I ventured into the world of Kat Von D liquid lipsticks and I was sold on the whole liquid lipstick phenomenon! Now, I’m a person, when I find a brand I love, I wear the heck out of the brand. But with Kat Von D, I think I have purchased all the shades that I know I will wear and wear well! Being the YouTube addict that I am, ( lol) I do watch a lot of beauty vloggers and it appears that everybody (and their mama) had something to say about the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks. Some were positive reviews and some not so positive. I’m the kind of person who likes to try something and form my own opinions. So recently, I went out and purchased three of the Stila liquid lipsticks to try. Before I share my opinions, lets discuss the product itself. (These details were found on the Sephora.com website.)
What is It:
A highly pigmented, liquid lipstick that’s weightless on the lips and delivers long-lasting coverage.
What it does:
This creamy, full-coverage lip color provides intense hydration with bold, long-lasting pigment that stays put for up to six hours of continuous wear. Featuring an array of matte and shimmer shades, this lip formula imparts a comfortable texture that feels lightweight on lips, and its color-rich formula does not bleed or transfer. Enriched with vitamin E and avocado oil, Stay All Day® Liquid Lipstick hydrates and softens lips so they look and feel beautiful.
What it is formulated WITHOUT:
What’s is also cool about this product is that they are free of synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, GMOs, and triclosan!
So the first shade I purchased was Patina. Patina is one of the most popular shades that Stila has. It is always sold out online and when my local Sephora carried the Stila brand ( they now do not 😦 ) it was always sold out there do. However,my local Shopper’s Drug Mart ( that’s a Canadian drug store similar to a CVS, Walgreens or Rite Aid for my American subscribers) has a beauty boutique inside and alas my beloved Patina was there! Score!
Patina is described as a dusty rose shade with a matte finish. I must say on all the beauty blogs this shade attracted me the most as I saw many women of colour ( similar to my complexion) wearing this colour and rocking it! I swatched it on my arm and loved it… then I put it on my lips with no liner and my lord was it AWFUL! So I tried it again, lining and filling in my lips with MACs chestnut lip liner and voila! I was in love! This shade is similar to Kat Von D’s “Lolita” but where Lolita has more of a brown undertone, Patina has more of a pinky mauve undertone. Both are equally gorgeous.
The next shade I purchased was “Fiery”. Fiery is described as a deep red shade. I struggled with choosing this shade because there is another shade called “Beso” which is described as a “true red”. Upon some discussion with my awesome Beauty consultant Kat, we decided that Fiery would suit me better. Again I lined my lips with my chestnut liner and was pleased! I found that this shade had a little more of an orange undertone, but I do believe if I line my lips with Mac’s cherry lip liner or with the Ruby Woo lip liner, this lip would be perfect! I do think I would like to try Beso at some point 🙂
Finally the last shade I purchased was totally on a whim! Stila recently released five new summer shades and one of those shades was a BEAUTIFUL violet shade called “Como”. Now you all know,I am a sucker for a purple lip! When Kat swatched that on my hand I was sold! This shade reminds me of an even more pigmented version of Mac’s Heroine lipstick. ( Yes I know all of my references are Mac! What can I say, I’m a Mac girl at heart!) It’s also, really similar to Kat Von D ‘s L.U.V. . I’ve worn this shade twice already! Once I paired this with Mac’s Nightmoth lip liner and I also wore as a stand alone! Love it! I do reckon I’ll be wearing this shade for most of the summer! 😛
Now that I’ve shared which colours I picked up, I would like to share the pros and cons of the product.
– super pigmented
– formula is not too drying
– easy to apply because of the doe foot applicator
– long-lasting to an extent ( meaning if you are not eating anything greasy lol)
– true to colour ( what you see in the tube is actually pretty accurate to the colour of the product).
– stains easily ( if you mess up, you will have to start over)
– if you lips are not moisturized prior to using them, they show every imperfection and your lips will flake.
– expensive ( Canadian Dollars $29)
-Stila stay all day is actually more like Stila stay until you eat pizza 😦 or drink from a straw 😦
– Takes quite awhile to dry
Bottom line:I’m not super in love with these lip stains. Perhaps I didn’t let them dry enough before I tested their durability. Maybe I’m just partial to the Kat Von D formula which I find can literally last through anything, greasy pizza and all lol! I do love how pigmented they are and I also love that the formula is a little less drying than Kat Von D’s formula. I do love Como though, But other than that, I’m not super in love with them. Would I purchase them again…. meh…. LOL! I do want to try Beso though, I feel like that shade is the perfect red lipstick that I have been looking for! 🙂
Have you guys tried the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks? What do you think? Let me know!
