Style Sunday: Boohoo x Wedding Season…

Style Sunday: Boohoo x Wedding Season…

Hi guys!

I took a much needed hiatus from the blog world.l I just wanted to enjoy my extremely busy summer without the constraints of deadlines and computer screens! I had the opportunity to attend quite a few weddings this summer season. I’d like to share with you what I wore to these events with outfits I found on the popular retail site Boohoo!

Boohoo is an affordable fashion site that caters to needs of men and women of all sizes. It offers a variety of style options ranging from extremely casual to fancy attire.

Today I’m going to showcase two dresses I purchased. At first glance, the dresses seemed very casual ( based on the material).  But once they were accessorized and I dolled myself up they became real showstoppers!

Look One: The Red Dress…

I purchased the dress actually way back in March to wear to another event but I went another direction. I was able to pull it out for a beautiful wedding in July.

This dress is a polyester blend dress. It is an off the shoulder piece that has a front tie, balloon sleeves and is midi length. This dress was the perfect, lightweight material and length for quite a warm summer day.

I pair this dress with silver jewelry. Teardrop bling earrings ( that were gifted to me by a friend) a silver pandora charm bracelet and a jewel and crystal statement necklace from Aldo Accessories. I added silver peep-toe heels from Call it Spring.

I kept my makeup very neutral as the dress was such a bold colour.

I purchased this dress for the amazingly low price of $33.00! ( Canadian currency) I loved this outfit and I hope the opportunity presents itself where I can wear this dress again!

( PS: All of us ladies wearing red  WAS NOT PLANNED! LOL. Great minds think alike I guess! 🙂

Look 2: The Yellow Dress

Anyone who knows me, knows my favourite colour is purple. However, my favourite colour to wear is…. you guessed it… yellow !

I had another wedding to attend this summer. This time it was in Montreal , Quebec which is about a 6-7 hour drive from where I live. The vision that I had in my head was that I wanted to look like sunshine. This was the wedding of my very good friend aka my “nephew” and his beautiful bride. I wanted a dress to really support the joy I was anticipating to feel on their special day! I smile every single time I see yellow , so yellow was the only option for me 😉

Once again I went to Boohoo to try and make my vision a reality.  I found exactly what I was looking for!

This dress is the same type of material as the first dress; a polyester blend. This dress is also an off the shoulder piece.  It is a wrap style dress, which I loved because it was very  forgiving in the mid-section area. What also drew me to this piece was the front split. It just added a nice flair to the otherwise very simple piece.

To to take this dress to the next level, I paired it with some yellow statement earrings from Forever 21. I added some gold bangles and kept my gold nameplate necklace on. The earrings were already so bold that I didn’t want to make myself look too busy.

I added some lucite cinderella slipper heels  from Fashion Nova. ( I don’t know If I can ever wear these again! They were so painful!) I also added a piece of kente cloth material that I used as a shawl in the day and a headwrap at the after party! 🙂   I also addded a clear purse with a pink insert from Forever 21 to complete the look.

This dress also retailed for only $33.00!

Would I reccomend Boohoo? Absolutely! I would defintely suggest you check it out if you are looking for a beautiful  budget friendly piece!

That’s it for summer wedding looks!   Come back next week and see my summer bridesmaid look !

Til next time….

Style Sunday: Basic Pieces

Style Sunday: Basic Pieces

Hey guys!

In the spirit of trying new things, and really branching out and stepping out of my comfort zone, I decided to start a series here on this site dedicated entirely to style. So here I am mindlessly watching the superbowl ( I don’t care who wins because none of the teams I like are playing) and decided today is the day! Plus, I really like my outfit today 😛

So, I did something a little crazy today….. I wore pants to church. I know, I know…You are probably over there in cyber world scratching your head saying, “So what? What’s the big deal?. Well coming from a predominantly West Indian Pentecostal church ( Hey fellow COGOP peeps!) it’s just something that is ingrained in me to do. When you are going to church, you dress up in what were deemed, “church clothes”. ( See pics below 🙂  )

But recently while in conversation with a friend, we began to discuss the verse in the bible Joel 2: 12-13 which in brief states to “rend your hearts and not your garments”. To make a long story short we came the conclusion, you could wear the most beautiful skirt and blouse to service, but if your actions aren’t matching your outward appearance then who really cares? God desires your worship not your clothes! Don’t get me wrong, I’m huge on modesty and love to dress up to go to the house of the Lord or anywhere, but this year I have decided to put less stock in what people might say, and do what works for me! Will God still accept my worship in jeans and a blazer on a non designated “dress down” Sunday? He sure will!  Also, I work in children’s ministry where I am super active! Sometimes a skirt just doesn’t work for the running around I have to do 😛

Whew! Now that that is out of the way, let me share with you what I wore to church this Sunday.

I wanted and extremely casual look today. My entire outfit consisted of five basic pieces:

A pant: I chose a mustard yellow, three quarter length cropped trouser. I purchased these from Forever 21 about 3 years ago. Down below I will have link to a similar pant I found on the Asos website.  I believe I purchased these pants for approximately $26.00 Canadian.

IMG_9016( Find similar pants here:)

Next, a basic tee: Also purchased from Forever 21. Simple plain white tee, that you can dress up or dress down. Here is the link to the one I purchased. This piece retails for $6.90 ( Canadian Dollars)

IMG_9017Next, a cardigan: Also purchased from Forever 21 ( I sense a theme here lol) . I chose it in the colour olive green because I thought it would be a complimentary colour concept with my mustard yellow pants. It is described on the website as a ” longline open-front cardigan.” It has 3 quarter length sleeves and is made of the material rayon. So it is quite loose and comfortable which is  what I was going for today! This piece retails for $ 21.90 ( Canadian Dollars)

This is the one I have. A recent purchase. Still in stores and on the Website.

Shoes: I couldn’t go completely casual. I had to glam it up a little. 😛   I went with a 5 inch platform stiletto that I purchased years ago at Spring. The colour, cognac ( im a little obsessed with cognac)  with gold detailing on the ankle strap. I believe these shoes were in the $35.00 dollar price range. I couldnt find this exact pair, but I was able to find a pair extremely similar here.

IMG_9015Lastly, I finished the outfit off with a simple statement necklace that I purchased from Aldo. A simple solid gold circular choker style neckalce with gold chain link detailing. It’s called the PAULDON.  I purchased this for a mere $12.00!

So lets tally this up:
Pants: $26.00
Tee: $6.90
Cardigan: $21.90
Shoes: $35.00
Necklace: $ 12.00

Total Price for Todays Outfit:  $101.80, and included in this outfit are 3 pieces that you can mix and match with a variety of different outfits easily ( tee, cardigan, necklace) thus saving you money in the long run : )

Beauty Blog: Drugstore Products I have been Trying Out

Beauty Blog: Drugstore Products I have been Trying Out

Hey Guys,

I’m back with another beauty blog. It’s been awhile! I have been trying out some new drugstore products. Now if I’m being perfectly honest, I’m not the one to deviate and jump from product to product. If I find a product I like, I stick with it for eternity! ( lol) However, my skin is pretty weird and it reacts differently to products at certain times of the month (-_____-) or once my skin becomes accustomed to it, it no longer is effective. So every so often I like to try new things out. This blog also includes a hair product and a makeup product.

During this recent trial, I found some products that I really like and I found a few products that I will probably never purchase again. So Lets jump right into it!

First, I purchased a foundation that I used last summer that I loved. They’ve  revamped it and brought it back with a new formula. This product is the “Fit Me Foundation” from Maybelline in the new Matte/Poreless formula. I thought this formula would be great for me, as I have combination/oily skin and a product that minimized my pores and would help reduce my shine would prove beneficial. Not the case at all. Let me tell you all, this foundation broke the heck out of my face. I’m lucky.  I have been blessed with pretty clear skin( the odd blemish here or there) and after I used this foundation, my face looked like a breeding ground for pimples…. and not just your ordinary pimple, large painful ones. I was so upset. It literally took almost a week to calm my skin down. I also didn’t see the results of what it said it was going to do, and the colour selection was very minimal. So, yeah, I give this product two thumbs down. I am interested to see if the old formula will break me out. I’m going to take the risk and try it. I’ll let you now how that works out.

fit meAnother product that I will probably never use again comes from the Organix line ( which I love). The Moroccan Curling Perfection Defining Cream. I thought I would like it because I have used the shampoo and conditioner in the past and I loved it, but that was not the case. I found that this product( which was supposed to define my curls) really matted my hair and made my hair stiff and dry. It did nothing for my hair. Two thumbs down. I will not be repurchasing.

The  next product I wasn’t a huge fan of was the NYX matte black liner. This is part of the Collection Noir. Let me first put a disclaimer here: I am a eyeliner snob ( lol) ever since I’ve started using the Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner in the shade Onyx, nothing can compare, even high-end liners don’t compare! Yet, I decided to step outside my comfort zone and try a new liner and I must say I wasn’t impressed. I found that this product smudged , and clumped and it didn’t give me the intense black definition I was looking for. I won’t count this one out though. I think once I play around with it, I may be able to make it work. I’m still on the fence. 🙂

Two products that I am loving right now are: The Nivea Pure and Natural Cleansing Toner and the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water.

Let’s start with the Nivea product:

What is it: A product used to tone and revitalize the skin .With the combination of argan oil and aloe vera, it helps maintain the natural balance of the skin.

Pros:

  • It is free from parabens, silicones, artificial colours and mineral oils.
  • Light on the face
  • Fresh scent
  • Cost effective (  ranges from 6-9 Canadian dollars)
  • Non-drying

Cons:

  • You have to use quite a bit of product to see results.
  • They test on animals 😦

Simple Micellar Cleansing Water:

What is it: A product that is a non-rinse cleansing product.

Pros:

  • Perfect for late nights, people on the go, travellers: a quick and efficient way to remove your makeup and cleanse your face
  • Fragrance free
  • Great for sensitive skin
  • Inexpensive ( approximately 10 Canadian dollars)

Cons:

  • I find that it left my face a little sticky to the touch.
  • They test on animals

Unfortunately both of these products test on animals. I’m in no way an animal rights activist, but I also don’t see the need in testing products on things that will never use the product. It’s highly unlikely that Ronnie the Rat will be using a micellar water anytime soon 😛

IMG_5922So those are the latest drugstore products that I have been trying. Some were fails and others are now a part of my beauty regimen! All of these products can be purchased at your local Walmart or Shoppers Drugmart. What are some products that you guys have been trying? What should I try next? Till next time…
