Hey guys!
By now, everybody and their mother has heard about Rihanna and the release of the Fenty Beauty Collection. I was not particularly hyped for this line, just because I was kind of on a makeup buying hiatus. However, when it released and every single Youtube beauty guru I follow, ( of various races) had jumped on the bandwagon and tried these products, I figured if you can’t beat them, join them! Fenty Beauty released right around my birthday and shout out to my dad who never knows what to buy me, so I always get either Sephora gift cards or Indigo Bookstore. He came clutch with the Sephora gift card this year! So in actuality I probably only spent $20.00 ( Dad for the WIN!! 🙂 ) ( I’m not spoiled I swear… I’m blessed <3)
So, I picked a few items and I am going to give you my honest unbiased opinion on what I think.
Before I get into the product itself, lets talk about the packaging. Based on the outer packaging, I thought the product packaging was going to be dark and edgy. However , it turned out to be more of a monochromatic theme. Very streamlined. Clean and simple, clear branding. I love it!
On to the products…
Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation :
Hats off to Rihanna for coming out with FORTY shades of foundations . There are shades for the fairest of the fair and for the melanin rich customer (like myself 🙂 )
The foundation is described as a buildable medium to full coverage foundation. This foundation is said to dry down to a matte finish. It proclaims to be good for all skin types. This is an oil free formula that was made with climate adaptive technology that is to make the foundation resistant to sweat and humidity. It is described as lightweight and long wearing. This product retails for $42.00 Canadian Dollars.
Shade I purchased : 470. I originally looked at the shade 480, however when I tried it on my skin, after a period of time when the product dried. it oxidized and I was left with a shade darker than my natural complexion. After watching a Youtube review , this girl in particular mentioned that the shade 470 is pretty much the equivalent to MAC’s NW50 which is my colour match in that brand. I will say, this foundation felt like I was wearing nothing! So light on my face which is really nice as some foundations I use, tend to make my face feel super heavy. It is medium coverage, however for those problem areas’t is easy to build up the product without feeling like you are wearing too much. While I really like this product and I will continue using it ( and will probably repurchase) It is not sweat resistant! The heat had this product, slipping and sliding all over my face. I must say however, after blotting my face, what was left of the product, still looked pretty good! For my fellow combination/oily readers out there, setting your face with a powder is key!
I got a sample of the Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer. ( which retails for $40.00 dollars) While, it didn’t do much for me a mattifying primer, it did make the foundation look absolutely flawless !! It did minimize the appearance of my pores and allowed to foundation to set impeccably! I may have to bite the bullet and purchase it. sigh…. Robyn Fenty getting all my coin… well my dad’s ( lol) I am oily mainly in my t- zone, so if you are oily all over this may not be the primer for you as like I mentioned before it is not mattifying at all.
Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo in the shades Ginger Binge and Moscow Mule
This product retails for $42.00 Canadian, but what I love about the duo is that your actually getting two products for the price of one! So if you really look at it, you’re getting a highlighter for $21.00 dollars. Did I convince you?? Help me convince myself!! LOL
This product comes in six different duo/ single shades. I chose Ginger Binge and Moscow Mule because I felt it suited my skin tone (deep dark) the best and I just love anything rose gold! I love this product because one of the duos is a more matte shade and the other is a sparkly finish. You can layer them for a more pigmented look or wear them alone for a more subtle approach. I personally like to layer them. I like a little drama! A little goes a long way with this product. I really enjoy this product and I’m glad I added it to my collection and to my everyday face look.
I know I know… you are probably wondering why I didn’t pick up the coveted Trophy Wife Killawat Freestyle Highlighter. But guys, I tried it in store and…. yeah Issa no for me. It was way to yellow for my liking and it also had like a greenish undertone … and too sparkly for me. Perhaps, as a makeup collector , I may add it to my collection but for everyday wear I chose the one I purchased for that!
The last product I purchased was the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminzer in the shade “Fenty Nude”. This is a universal nude with rose gold/ peachy undertones . This lipgloss is supposed to look beautiful on every skin tone and from the reviews I’ve watched, it does! It has such a natural glow. One thing I love about this gloss, is that it is not sticky! Some glosses feel like you are super gluing your lips shut. This gloss actually feels moisturizing. It is formulated with Shea butter which helps with that and it has the most wonderful tropical scent to it that just makes you want to reapply over and over! This product retails for $23.00 Canadian which is a little on the pricey side however, I feel like it is well worth the money. Once again, a little goes a long way with this product so you shouldn’t feel slighted.
So finally Are the Fenty Beauty products worth the hype? YES Absolutely! This line offers products to cater to beauty lovers with many different beauty needs! Do yourself a favour, and run out and get you some!! Actually don’t run because Riri doesn’t release limited amount of stock and sell out in minutes ( insert eye roll.. cough cough Kylie… no shade just facts! ) There is enough product in store and online to suit your purchasing needs whenever you are ready to do so!
Have you tried anything Fenty Beauty yet? If so let me know your thoughts!
Till next time,
xoxo
