Beauty Blog: Nude Lips Are The “New” Phenomenon…

Ever since the beginning of time, a red lip has always been the piece of the puzzle that just finishes a makeup look. But now, a nude lip can really give the wow factor that a red lip used to bring to the table! I’m a real lover of a nude lip, and over the course of a few years, I have amassed quite a collection of new lip products. I would like to share with you a few of my favorites and ones that I think really compliment those who are of a darker complexion like me.

Let’s begin with my MAC shades I own. I have 7 of them :  Freckletone, Taupe, Velvet Teddy, Whirl., Polished Up, Fresh Brew and Spice is Nice.

Let’s discuss these shades a little more in-depth:

Spice Is Nice: Now this is a lipstick that I received from MAC for returning 6 empties ( MAC has a recycling program that allows you to turn in 6 recyclable containers and receive a free lippie!) I think this actually was my first MAC lipstick, not the first I personally purchased ( that was Ruby Woo) but the first I picked out. This was about 2011. I had never worn lipstick other than my moms lipstick and Wet and Wilds 508! ( I loved that shade). So naturally, I picked a shade that resembled my moms shade.  Spice is Nice is a brown, cremesheen ( high shine finish) shade. It is pretty close to the actually pigmentation of my natural lips, so Its pretty much like a tinted lip balm on me. I wasn’t a big fan of it at all when I purchased it, but as of lately, I have been reaching for it to pair with some mascara and a little powder ( so not in the mood for full face this summer 🙂 ) I do believe this shade has been discontinued, which is alright by me because I probably wouldn’t repurchase it. However, the next shade I am going to discuss, is very similar.

Polished Up: Polished up is another nude that bears more on the brown side. This lipstick has a lustre finish ( semi gloss finish). I would same it is almost the same as Spice is Nice with the only difference being the finish, Not a fan of this one. I would not repurchase.

MAC Polished Up

Freckletone: This particular nude I purchased from my YouTube beauty vlog obsession 😛 . This is another lipstick with a lustre finish. It is a very peachy nude. Now, I am of a darker complexion, so when I tried to wear this lipstick alone. I looked all kinds of crazy! So I pair this with a dark brown lipliner like MAC Chestnut liner and it looked much better. It’s not a very long-lasting lipstick. You will have to reapply many times throughout the day, so if that not something you are looking to do steer clear of this one. It’s not one I reach for much anymore, but I do think I would still repurchase this if I ever ran out of it… eventually ( lol)

MAC Freckletone

Fresh Brew: Another YouTube ploy that sucked me in but I am glad it did! It’s probably one of the first nudes I reach for when I need a quick lippie for the day. Its described as a creamed coffee shade. I also pair this with a dark brown lip liner for some definition. You will need to reapply this one as it also has a lustre finish. I really think this nude really compliments those who are darker complected as well.

Velvet Teddy: LOVE this lipstick! Its deep beige shade.I wear this with a brown liner just to warm it up a little bit. I would 100% purchase this again whenever I run out. If applied with a lip primer underneath this can last a pretty long time. This is a matte shade.

MAC Velvet Teddy

My last two MAC lipsticks are matte finishes. They are Taupe and Whirl. Now.. if you have one, trust me, you don’t need the other. I purchased Taupe because I saw it in the bathroom at my family members house ( hey Kyzie!) I tried it on ( yes Kyz I did lol) and fell in love with it.  I wear Taupe a lot with a brown lipliner.  Now, this summer when MAC launched new shades to their matte collection, I fell in love with Whirl. SO  MANY YouTubers were jumping on that bandwagon so I jumped on too… only to realize that Taupe was essentially the same thing. Whirl has more of a dusty rose undertone. Think the “Kylie Jenner” lip that everybody and their mama was losing their mind trying to achieve ( Side note: Kylie Jenner didn’tt make that lip popular, that lip was all the rage in the early to mid 1990’s okay! lol)  I pair both with either Whirl lip liner or Chestnut lip liner! I love them both but if I had to pick one … I simply couldn’t! Id buy both 🙂

MAC Whirl Lipstick and Liner

The last two nudes in my collection are from Stila and Kat Von D.

Patina: A liquid lipstick from The Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick collection. It’s a very pink nude. I have to line ( and fill in) my lips with a brown liner so I don’t look crazy as this colour is super pigmented. I like it but would I repurchase it? I’m still on the fence.

Patina

Lolita: From the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Line. My HOLY GRAIL of nude lipsticks. The perfect dusty rose shade. Perfect, Perfect Perfect!!!. My go to. It’s actually very similar to Whirl but I love the long-lasting formula of Lolita. This lipsticks stays sold out EVERYWHERE! So if you get a chance to get it, jump on the opportunity!

The top three shades I would suggest for purchase are Whirl, Fresh Brew and of course Lolita! What are your favorite nude lip products? Let me know!
