Monday Motivation: Hello Fear….

Monday Motivation: Hello Fear….

Hey guys!

Forgive my lack of blogging this week. All my ECE, RECE , DECE and teacher friends can attest to the fact that preparing for the first week of school is just as taxing as the actual first day! So forgive me, I have been wrapped up in that this week 🙂 .

This past Friday, I had a wedding to attend and I paid an early morning visit to my hairdresser. She always has great music playing and since I always take the earliest appointment ( 6:30 am!) I love that I can hear awesome music to help me wake up while I get dolled up!! This particular visit , on her playlist were songs from an album I love, Kirk Franklin’s ” Hello Fear” . I had completely forgotten all about it! The song also entitled, “Hello Fear” spoke to me that day.

According to, fear is described as an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat…

How many times have you let fear take control of your lives? How many times have you let fear stop you from accomplishing what you want to do? I know I have! .Too often we let our own insecurities hinder what God has in store for us. When things don’t go our way, we automatically shut down and begin to doubt God’s plan and the path He has set before us.

There are many people in this world that suffer from anxiety, and I do think everybody struggles with a bout of anxiety from time to time. Some people use vices like drugs and alcohol to cope with their anxiety. I choose to rely on two particular scriptures to get me through. The first being Philippians 4:6 which reads:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Prayer for me is the key resolution to anxiety. Nothing gives me more peace than having a conversation with God and leaving all my worries and cares at His feet.

The next scripture is definitely one of my favorite scripture verses. 2 Timothy 1:7 reads:

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

So I encourage someone out there today to not let fear take control of your life! Instead, say goodbye to fear, doubt, depression, loneliness and any other things that may stop us from LIVING. Let’s replace fear with a reminder of God’s grace! No matter what, He will see you through! GOODBYE FEAR! We will no longer be prisoners to you!

Check out the lyrics and the song down below and have a wonderful Labour (labor for my American readers :p) Day!

Hello Fear
Before you sit down there’s something I need to explain
Since you’re here
I think I should tell you since we last talked things have changed
See I’m tired of being broken-hearted
So I made a list and you’re on it
All my hopes and my dreams You took from me
I want those back before you leave

Hello Fear
I knew I would see you, You have a hard time letting go
See these tears,Take a good look cuz, soon they wont fall anymore
God’s healing my hurful places
That seat that was yours now is taken
I’m no longer afraid,See I’m better this way
And one more thing before you leave

Never again will I love you
My heart it refuses to be your home
No longer your prisoner
Today I remember
Apart from you is where I belong

And never again will I trust you
I’m tired of fighting it’s been way too long
No longer your prisoner
Today I remember
Who I was and now it’s gone
They’re gone
Hello Fear
Da da da da da, da da da da da

Farewell Goodbye So long [3X]

Hello Grace
It feels like forever, I thought my chance with you was gone
See your face, it reminds me of mercy
And please let me say I was wrong
Never knew your touch was endless
How you never run dry of forgiveness
Didn’t know how bad it was, was afraid just because
Sorry fear, grace took your place

Farewell Goodbye So long [8X]

Hello Fear
Before you sit down there’s something I need to explain

Wednesday Weekly Reads: Success!

Wednesday Weekly Reads: Success!

Hey guys!

So this week I am proud to say, was a successful reading week! I managed to finish ALL the books on my reading list! Yay me! 🙂

Amazing Read! 5/5 stars!

So let’s go through them! I finally finished ” Jesus Is” by Judah Smith. What a fantastic read, not only for a seasoned Christian, but for a new believer or anyone just curious about who Jesus is! I give this book 5 out of 5 stars and am going to recommend this book to everyone i know. He just released a new book that I  have already picked up ( ” Life Is” ) and I am looking forward to reading this in the very near future.

4/5 stars.

Next, i picked up “Finding Me” By Michelle Knight. This is a memoir written by Michelle Knight who is one of Ariel Castro’s  Cleveland kidnapping victims. She was held captive ( alongside Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus) in this monsters house for 11 years.

This book details all the gruesome and painful life Michelle had to endure. My heart broke as I turned each page of this book. But it still brought out so many questions; “Why on earth would she get into a vehicle with this man?” (she was offered a ride to an appointment at the family court regarding her son) and ” Why on earth would she enter his house???” ( He said he had puppies and that she could take one home for her son)

Now, Michelle recounts in her memoir that she did not have a happy or peaceful life up before her abduction. She was continuously raped by a family member, her parents were unstable  and abusive and even had a bout of homelessness  before she was captured. She even had her child ( a son named Joey” taken away from her because of the unstable home she was forced to raise him in.) So it becomes clear that Michelle never had a chance to grow up or mature, hence why she was naive and gullible enough to not notice the red flags. Very sad situation. Sadly her life in captivity was no better. She recalls memories of rapes, pregnancies and miscarriages. But one fateful day in May 2013, Michelle and her two other victims very rescued!

Michelle recounts how her and her other victim Gina DeJesus became very close during captivity. Yet Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus are writing memoir together recounting their experiences in captivity… Hmm…. If Michelle and Gina were so close.. how come Gina wrote a book with Amanda and not her? Or why haven’t the three of them done anything together?  All questions I hope are answered when I read their book, ” Hope: A memoir of survival in Cleveland”.  I give Michelle’s book a 4 out of 5 stars.

Releasing April 28, 2015

Finally, I finished “The Fix” by K’wan. I love Kwan’s books, but this one was just okay. Nothing to write home about. No pressing desire to read the sequel. It was just a book I started a year ago and wanted to finish. I’m trying ( unsuccessfully lol 🙂 ) to finish books I already own before I purchase more. I give this book a 3 out of 5 stars and that’s being generous because I love K’wan.

Not my favorite K’wan book.. 3/5 stars.

This week I think I’m going to keep it super light with it being Easter weekend! For me that means a 4 day weekend ( woohoo) but it also means church, church and more church and of course  spending time with friends and family. So I’m only going put one book on this to read list this week. This was a book I was suggested to read by a few people. It is “Copper Sun” by Sharon M. Draper. Now this is a young adult book but the content is very mature. I remember in high school I read a number of books by this author such as ” Tears of a Tiger “ ( which i loved and would like to re-read at some point) “Forged by Fire” and “Romiette and Julio”. So I was interested to see what all the hype over this book was about. Goodreads gives this descriptive plot summary:

Amari’s life was once perfect. Engaged to the handsomest man in her tribe, adored by her family, and living in a beautiful village, she could not have imagined everything could be taken away from her in an instant. But when slave traders invade her village and brutally murder her entire family, Amari finds herself dragged away to a slave ship headed to the Carolinas, where she is bought by a plantation owner and given to his son as a birthday present.

Survival seems all that Amari can hope for. But then an act of unimaginable cruelty provides her with an opportunity to escape, and with an indentured servant named Polly she flees to Fort Mose, Florida, in search of sanctuary at the Spanish colony. Can the elusive dream of freedom sustain Amari and Polly on their arduous journey, fraught with hardship and danger? (

I must admit, I started this book briefly this morning and I already have fallen in love with Sharon’s writing all over again. Looking forward to getting some time to finish this:)  This book was a Coretta Scott King award winner. coppersun

I also picked up an old devotional I used years ago called ” Women of the Bible” . This devotional divides each women’s story into a week-long bible study. My two girlfriends and I ( Hey becca Hey Rach!) are going to use this devotional together! Excited! This week we are starting right at the beginning with Eve. ( These devotionals go from Monday to Monday)

So those are my goals! Happy Reading y’all and if I don’t get on here again, Happy Easter season! May the love of God be ever-present in your life and homes!

Wednesday Weekly Reads: March 25, 2015

Hey y’all!

I hope you’ve had a successful reading week! Mine was! But not in the sense of the number of books I managed to complete; but in what I realized about myself as a reader. I have always been a super quick reader, usually able to finish a pretty lengthy book in a day or two. But as I’ve gotten older, and my schedule has changed, I’ve found that I just don’t have an hour or two a day to really delve into a story. That used to really bother me. I thought I was losing my knack for reading! However, this week I realized that was not the case! I have just learned how to take my time and savor a book, pay attention to the writing and really try to decipher the message the author is trying to relay.

So this week, I took time to do that, and that meant I didn’t complete one full book! I did manage to get through most of, “Jesus Is” by Judah Smith. This is a book you can’t just breeze through. You have to take time to study with this book because it literally forces you to determine who “Jesus is” to you and His significance in your life ! Beautifully written and very engaging. This book will be finished this week! I am determined!

Next, I was going to pick up “Finding Me” by Michelle Knight. I didn’t get a chance to so I’m putting it back on the list for this week!

This week I would like to complete these two books. Both of them are pretty heavy in content so I will only one other book I will add to the list. It’s a book I started about 2 trips to New York ago and that was at least a year ago (lol). It’s by one of my favorite authors K’wan and its called “The Fix”. The synopsis on reads:

What would you do if you felt like you were dying and the only thing that could save you was the very thing that was killing you?
Persia Chandler doesn’t know the meaning of the world struggle. After the arrest of her notorious father, she is whisked away from Harlem, the only place she has ever called home, to be raised in an affluent neighborhood in Long Island City. Her mother and stepfather shower her with the best that life has to offer. During her senior year in high school, she convinces her parents to let her transfer from Catholic school to attend public school. That is the start of her problems–but it’s hardly the end.
In her new school, Persia is reunited with the friends she was forced to move away from, and starts to drift further and further from the life her mother and stepfather have built for her. To the sheltered Persia, the Harlem underworld is like one big adventure. Things promise to get even more interesting when she starts dating a dealer named Chucky. He introduces her to his world of sex, money, and drugs, dragging Persia along with him on a long and bitter ride into the bowels of addiction.

I’m already about 100 pages into this story so i should finish this up by tomorrow or Friday 🙂 and I just saw online that there is a sequel out so you know I’m going to pick that up and add that to my future reading list! 🙂

Have a wonderful reading week guys!!
