Beauty Blog: Lush Lip Products…

Hey y’all,

I’m back again with another beauty blog. I recently have become obsessed with the company LUSH! Their bath bombs are everything! I received a couple from my friend Jess for my birthday and that totally sparked my interest in what other products they have. So while post Boxing Day “browsing” at the Rideau Centre mall in Ottawa Ontario, I wandered into their LUSH location.

What is Lush? Lush is a cosmetics retailer headquartered in Poole, Dorset, United Kingdom, founded by Mark Constantine, a trichologist and Liz Weir, a beauty therapist. They met in a hair and beauty salon in Poole, England.( wikipedia)  They have locations all over Canada and the United States as well as other places.  Some really cool things about the LUSH company is that their products are 100 percent vegetarian, with many of their products being vegan! They are against animal cruelty and testing and their products are handmade!

Now, with the winter months now upon us here in Ontario, Canada where I live, chapped lips have become the bane of my existence!! Now anyone who knows me knows I love to wear lipstick but the worst thing that you can have before applying lipstick, are super chapped lips!

Now, I have a homemade recipe that I found on Pinterest that really works ( i’ll include the link to  that recipe here)  but sometimes I don’t want to take the 3.5 seconds it takes to make one(lol) and I just want the quick and easy way out. Plus I’m a product junkie so I’m always in the market to try new things!

So I picked up two items from LUSH to rescue my lips this winter. The first thing I picked up was a lip scrup called “Mint Julips”. According to LUSH.com this product is described as follows:

Mint-chocolate pout polish

Just like the scrumptious cocktail served in hot southern summers, Mint Julips is packed full of fresh peppermint and sweet castor sugar. Peppermint is responsible for that ‘tingly feeling’ you get after brushing your teeth or using lip balm, so we thought it would make a perfect addition to our lip scrub! Plus, it makes Mint Julips tastes like a big, creamy bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream.

The ingredients are:

Castor Sugar , Cold Pressed Organic Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia Chinensis) , Vanilla Extract (Vanilla planifolia) , Tagetes Oil (Tagetes minuta) , Peppermint Oil (Mentha piperita) , *Limonene , Flavor . *Occurs naturally in essential oils

The sales representative gave me a sample of this and I was sold. Like any other exfoliating lip product, a little goes a long way. So I simply took a little on my pinkie finger and gently scrubbed away. What’s great about this product is that you can “eat” ( or lick off) the excess because it tastes great!  Now let me tell you before I used this product my lips were DRYYYYYYYY! Those Ottawa frigid temperatures really did a number on my lips and my EOS  lip balm just wasn’t cutting it anymore. My lips felt so brand new after! Even my best friend tried it  and purchased one for herself. I believe she got a different flavour though ( It also comes in Bubblegum and Popcorn) This product retails for only $9.95! For for amount of product you get and how little you have to use each time, it is well worth the price! Would I suggest it to anyone? Absolutely? Would I repurchase? Again and Again 🙂

Mint Julips

The next product I got was a Lip Balm called “Honey Trap”. It is described on LUSH.com  as follows:

Our product inventors worked hard in the labs, experimenting with all sorts of different flavors before they landed on this seductive honey lip balm. Recently, they revisited the formula, mixing it by hand on lower temperatures to make it softer and more flavorful. Honey Trap is filled with toning sweet orange and cooling peppermint to soothe dry, chapped lips. Rich honey moisturizes and melted white chocolate is part of that delectable flavor

The ingredients are as follows:

Fair Trade Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii) , Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis) , Beeswax (Cera alba) , Honey ,Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Olea europaea) , White Chocolate (Sucrose, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Dry Whole Milk, Lecithin, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract) ,Glycerine , Flavor , Organic Cold Pressed Wheatgerm Oil (Triticum Vulgare) , Oatmeal (Avena Sativa) , Peppermint Oil (Mentha piperita) , Vanilla Absolute (Vanilla planifolia) ,Sweet Wild Orange Oil (Citrus sinensis) , *Limonene .*Occurs naturally in essential oils

I really liked this product, however,  I had a few cons . Although it is super moisturizing, its not a long lasting moisture I’m finding with this product I have to reapply repeatedly.  I’ve found that if I apply it at night, it helps keep my lips soft overnight and looking fresh in the morning. I also am not a huge fan of the packaging . I think I would like it better if this product was in a tube. This retails for $7.95 which is a little more than I usually spend on lip balm ( Can I get a $2:00 tube of Carmex please!!)  Would I suggest it to peer to buy? Sure! Would I repurchase? Probably not!

Honey Trap

Do you guys have any suggestions for moisturizing lip products for a bitterly cold winter season? Let me know!

xoxo

  1. Also, if you’re looking for something for your skin they have a scrub called Dark Angels (black sugar and charcoal), so great for leaving the skin looking bright! I really like it.
